Orban J.T. Moorhead (Mike), 89, of San Saba, Texas died March 1, 2017 in a local nursing homeOrban moved to the Lamun-Lusk-Sanchez Texas State Veterans Home, Big Spring Texas in October, due to a lengthy illness. He joined the Merchant Marines at 16 years old and then served in the United States Marine Corps during World War II. He retired from Local 428 of the Operating Engineers Union in Arizona. Later he purchased a ranch in San Saba, Texas where he raised cattle, hosted hunters, loved fishing and spending time with family.The Moorhead Ranch welcomed The North American Hunters for Heroes San Saba Chapter in 2012. Texas Hunters for Heroes is a non-profit 501C3 who are dedicated to assisting our country’s veterans by introducing them to the joys of hunting, fishing and the great outdoors. Thanks to the Moorhead Ranch many veterans have had the opportunity to come and not only enjoy nature, but feel respect, honor and fellowship.Orban was born on November 9, 1927 in Sagerton, Texas to the late William C. Moorhead, Sr., and Martha Angie (York) Moorhead. He had five brothers and six sisters.He is survived by one brother; Thomas Moorhead and wife, Linda of Vacaville, California; two younger sisters, Nellie (Moorhead) Kerby of Big Spring and Evelyn Pauline (Moorhead) Helmes and husband, Bobby of Tifton Georgia. He is also survived by one son; Michael J. Moorhead, Sr. and wife, Mary Margaret of San Saba, Texas; one daughter; Sharon Faye ( Moorhead) Mook and husband, John of Crane, Texas; four grandchildren; Heather Mook of Odessa, Texas, Clayton Mook and wife, Tonay of San Angelo, Texas, Michael J. Moorhead, Jr. of Artesia, New Mexico and Morgan E. Moorhead, of Houston; and one great grandson, Brendon Mook of San Angelo, Texas.He will be honored with a military memorial service near the end of March at the Moorhead Ranch.
