O. L. "Vic" Vickers, 86, of De Leon, formerly of Coahoma, died on Thursday, April 30, 2009, in an Abilene hospital. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Monday, May 4, 2009 at the First Baptist Church of Coahoma with Rev. Elwin Collom, pastor of Hillcrest Baptist Church, Big Spring and Rev. Wes Massey, pastor of First Baptist Church of Coahoma, officiating. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park in Big Spring.The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM Sunday at the funeral home.He was born on June 10, 1922, in Avalon, Texas and married Verna McLaughlin on November 12, 1943 in Vancouver, Washington. She preceded him in death on February 16, 2005.Vic worked for Coastal Oil & Gas Company for over 40 years, retiring in 1985. He served in the United States Army with the 96th Infantry Division in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He attended the First Baptist Church of Coahoma.Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Sue and Larry Sherrard of De Leon; three grandchildren, Bill Sherrard and wife, Gina of Haslet, Brian Sherrard and wife, Teisha of De Leon and Bobbette Walker and husband, Rich of Lake Worth; seven great grandchildren, Samantha Adkins and husband, Jay, Jacob Wadley, Joshua Wadley, Andy Walker, Logan Sherrard, Lindsi Sherrard and Adam Walker; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Eddie and Mattie Maynard Vickers; seven brothers and three sisters.
