O.L. Kirby, 91, passed away sunday, February 9, 2003 at Stanton Care Center in Stanton, Texas. Services will be held Tuesday, February 11, 2003 at 1:00 p.m. at Golf Course Road Church of Christ with Floyd Stanley and Ronnie White officiating. Interment will be at Resthaven Memorial Park. He was born August 24, 1911 in Tokeen, Texas to King and Janie Kirby. He was raised in the Abilene area. He married Edith Odell Thames in January 1934. After serving his country in World War II and being honorably discharged in February 1946, he moved to Midland and worked in construction as a carpenter and foreman for several Midland area builders. He delighted in being with his family and especially his grandchildren. They were truly the light of his life. He was a faithful member of the Golf Course Road Church of Christ. He is survived by one sister; Ruthie Alexander of Odessa, two daughters; Barbara Smith and her husband Mike of Midland and Sandra Russell and Boots Russell also of Midland, five grandchildren, Roger Russell of Kerrville, Greg Russell, Kim McCowan and her husband Mark, Michelle Awbrey and her husband Scott and Justin Smith all of Midland. He is also survived by two great granddaughters, Joely Smith and Brylee Awbrey and one great grandson, Nolan Smith all of Midland and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Edith Odell Kirby, in 1971. Pallbearers will be Roger Russell, Greg Russell, Boots Russell, Justin Smith, Scott Awbrey and Mark McCowan.
