O B Winn Jr.

O.B. Winn Jr. passed away peacefully on September 12, 2026, leaving behind a legacy as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, relative and friend. He provided for his family, serving as a veteran and working as an oilfield engineer for decades.

Born in Kansas City, Kansas, O.B. grew up alongside five sisters: Dr. Pauline Harris, Dr. Shirley Roberson, Mrs. Carol Williams, Mrs. Gwen Caldwell and Mrs. Sandra Shoals. Growing up in a household of women, he developed an even-tempered nature and was always deeply protective of them. O.B. was also blessed with older siblings who enriched his life: Adlene and Ossie Fuston, James “Sonny” Johnson and Leo Solomon. Additionally, his aunt Thelma and Lee Britton played a significant role during his younger years in Kansas City, Missouri. His grandmother, Alice Johnson of Dover, Oklahoma, made a major contribution to his life while he lived in Dover, Oklahoma during his teenage years. His paternal grandparents, Polly and Charlie Winn of Shreveport, Louisiana, also made an impact on his life. His parents, O.B. Sr. and Ester Winn, instilled in him a love of God, a love of family a strong work ethic, and the ability to acquire many skill sets to fix just about anything.

In his youth, O.B. accepted Christ into his life. During his early teenage years in the mid-1960’s, he joined the Civil Air Patrol (CAP) Cadet Program, focusing on aerospace education, moral leadership, physical fitness and flight training. He completed ground school and orientation flights in the Kansas City area.

He was an all-star athlete in both Kansas City, Kansas and Dover, Oklahoma. Basketball was his passion, and O.B. was an avid OU Sooner fan. When he was playing basketball, the surrounding teams always dreaded playing against the Dover squad when O.B. and other family members were on the court. He graduated from Dover High School in 1972. He had a basketball scholarship to Redland College in El Reno. He played at Northern Oklahoma College in Tonkawa and Northwestern University in Alva. While at Tonkawa, he was an R& B D.J. for the college radio station.

During the Vietnam era, O.B. proudly served his country in the U.S. Army and the Air National Guard. After his military service he retired from the Air National Guard. He worked for decades in the oilfields of Dover, Oklahoma and the Permian Basin in Midland and Odessa, Texas, before retiring.

O.B. met the love of his life, Laveta, and was faithful to their family. He was a devoted father to Rashad (Scooter) and Brandi, and a proud grandfather to Zaleigh and Leeroy. Upon retirement from Weatherford, nothing brought him greater joy than spending time taking care of his grandchildren.

Beyond the noise of the rigs, O.B. was a devoted family man, a loyal friend and someone who could always be counted on when things got tough. His strong work ethic, steady hand, deep-toned chuckle and quick wit will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

O.B. was preceded in death by his grandparents, James (Preacher) and Alice Johnson of Dover, OK, Charlie and Polly Winn; parents, O.B. Winn, Sr. and Ester Winn; siblings, Laverne Winn of California, Adlene Fuston of Dover, OK, James (Sonny) Johnson of Enid, OK and Leo Solomon of Spencer, OK.

O.B. will be deeply missed by his wife Laveta; son, Rashad (Scooter); daughter, Brandi Winn; grandchildren, Leeory and Zaleigh; sisters, Dr. Pauline Harris, Dr. Shirley Roberson, Mrs. Carol Williams, Mrs. Gwen Caldwell and Mrs. Sandra Shoals, as well as a host of extended family and friends.

The family of O.B. Winn would like to express our deepest appreciation for the prayers, love, phone calls and support during this time. Your kindness brings us comfort as we celebrate a life well lived.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm, Friday, September 25, 2026 at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home. A funeral service will take place at 1:00 pm, Saturday, September 26, 2026 at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home Chapel.
