Norman V. Carter, 85, of Big Spring, died on Saturday, October 21, 2006, at his residence. Graveside funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Monday, October 23, 2006 at the Englewood Cemetery in Slaton, Texas with, Pastor Kenneth Winchester, officiating.Norman was born on April 12, 1921, in Granbury, Texas and married Gay Saunders on July 4, 1946 in Lubbock, Texas.He worked for Santa Fe Railroad as an engineer and retired in 1972 after 25 years of service. He enjoyed fishing and the outdoors and loved his family and doing things together. He was a member of First Baptist Church. He served in the United Stated Army as a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne Infantry in Europe during World War II. He received the Purple Heart, the Silver Star Medal and the Presidential Unit Citation.Survivors include his wife, Gay Carter of Big Spring; one son and daughter-in-law, Norman Wade & Robin Carter of Slaton; two sisters, Mildred Lewis of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma and Neva Jo Beck of Satellite Beach, Florida; four grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his parents, and one sister Maxelle Pettit.
