Norma Jean Shackelford Nichols, 80, of Ackerly, passed away on Wednesday, August 8, 2007, in Big Spring. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, August 11, 2007 at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel with Rev. Dennis Teeters, pastor of Spring Creek Fellowship, officiating and Derrick Looney, pastor of Forsan Baptist Church, assisting. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park.She was born on December 22, 1926, in Avery, Texas and married Elvin "Buddy" Nichols on May 6, 1946 in Avery. He preceded her in death on September 2, 1995.Norma Jean had owned and operated a small hair salon in Ackerly for 45 years. In later years, she fished and hunted with her husband, Buddy. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Ackerly for 45 years and taught Sunday School at varied levels.Survivors include one son, Terry Nichols and wife, Dorothy of Ackerly; one daughter, Sheryl Richter and husband, Alton of Tyler; grandchildren, Michael Richter, Courtney Richter, Ashley Richter, Chad Nichols and wife, Kim, Chance Nichols and wife, Amber, and Tamara Nichols; great grandchildren, Desi Richter and Peyton and Trey Nichols; two sisters, Kathleen Stanley and husband, Eddie of Houston and Darlene Barkowsky and husband, Alton of Patricia; and two brothers, Jimmy Shackelford and wife, Johnnie of Odessa and Ronnie Shackelford of Odessa.She was also preceded in death by her parents, Huey and Minnie Shackelford and brothers, Howard Glen, Jackie and Wayne Shackelford.
