“Norma” Jean Conley Hubbard passed away on May 14, 2026. Norma Jean was born on March 9, 1931, in Johnson City, Tennessee, to Dannie Wysong Conley and Mary Louise Petty. Private services will be held at a future date.
Around age three, she moved with her family to Big Spring, Texas, where she was raised. She later graduated from Big Spring High School. She married Tommy Calvin Hubbard, and together they built a family. Jean was a devoted mother to her two sons, David “Mike” Michael Hubbard and Richard “Dicky” Wayne Hubbard. Jean loved her family, her friends, and her community.
Jean enjoyed all kinds of music. As a High School Band Booster, she helped produce Annual Music Revues and served as a chaperone on many band trips. She was loved by band members and earned the nickname “Mother Hubbard.”
After her children were grown, Jean moved to Waco, where she began a career with Southwestern Bell Telephone as a Directory Assistance operator. When she retired, Jean was a Service Assistant who specialized in training operators and helped develop training materials.
After her retirement, Jean had more time to pursue her hobbies. She was a genealogist. Not only did she research her own family’s history, but she also helped other family members and friends find their ancestors. She wrote many family history books, as well as a history of her hometown, Big Spring, Texas. Sales of the book helped fund the Heritage Museum of Big Spring.
Jean was creative and enjoyed learning new crafts. She surprised her family and friends with her creations. In addition to needlework and scrapbooking, she created beautiful mosaics with stained glass and ornaments of her own design using polymer clay.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Dannie and Mary Louise Conley, and by her son, David “Mike” Michael Hubbard and her brother, James Hugh Conley.
She will be deeply missed by her son, Richard “Dicky” Wayne Hubbard; her daughter-in-law, Paula Hubbard, grandsons Eric Michael Hubbard and wife Heather, Ryan David Hubbard and his wife Alex; and her great-grandchildren, Presley Kate, Parker Michael, Pryce David, and Hadley Jane and Marshall Tekavec. Many others, relatives and friends, will cherish her memory.”
