Nora Gaylene Stansbery of Midland, Texas passed away on Thursday, November 23, 2023.
Gaylene was born October 1963, in Stanton, Texas to John and Judy (Polson) Wilkes. She grew up in Midland, Texas where she attended Burnet Elem. and Alamo Jr High. At age 12, Gaylene moved to Crownpoint, New Mexico, where she attended Crownpoint Jr. High and Thoreau High School. Gaylene graduated from Thoreau High School in May 1982 and was married to Jim Stansbery in August 1982. Gaylene and Jim moved back to Midland, Texas in September 1984.
Gaylene was an active member of the PTA, Girl Scouts-Brownie’s troop leader, loved the outdoors camping, kayaking, hunting, and fishing. She was a competitive sports shooter, appearing in five episodes of Academy Sports & Outdoors on TV’s Outdoor Network. She held multiple NRA Instructor Certifications, including NRA Chief Range Safety Officer. Gaylene was a Texas License to Carry Instructor and Firearms Instructor.
Gaylene is survived by her husband Jim Stansbery, daughter Melodie (Stansbery) Yarbrough, son Kristopher Stansbery, twin grandsons Aidan and Ethan Himbury, and step grandsons Cameron Yarbrough and Caleb Yarbrough.
