Nona La Verne (Broyles) Stanley, 69, of Big Spring, died on Saturday, March 5, 2005, at her residence. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 PM Tuesday, March 8, 2005 at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel with Rick Cunningham minister of 14th and Main Church of Christ, officiating. A private family interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park.The family will receive friends at Nona's home, 4900 Wasson Road.She was born on February 6, 1936, in Rio Hondo, Texas and married Alfred J. Stanley on May 4, 1956 in Harlingen, Texas. He preceded her in death on April 3, 1993.Nona had worked for the Texas Veterens Commission at the V.A. Medical Center from 1982 until she retired in August of 2003. She enjoyed antiqueing, Skip-Bo, dominoes and traveling with friends. During her marriage to Alfred, she had lived in Plattsburg, New York; Omaha, Nebraska; Las Vegas, Nevada; Harlingen, Texas and Okinawa, Japan. She was a member of 14th and Main Church of Christ and loved her church family and friends.Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, D. F. and La Rhonda Stanley and A. J. and Sherrie Stanley all of Big Spring; one daughter and son-in-law, Betty L. and Wesley Thixton of Big Spring; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Malcolm Broyles of Pasadena and Sidney and Linda Broyles of Harlingen; seven grandchildren, Clay Thixton and wife, Aubrey, Kristen Nichols and husband, John Paul Nichols, Clint Stanley, Charlene Stanley, Kaylon Stanley, Kay"C Stanley and Kaleb Stanley all of Big Spring; two great grandchildren, Tucker Thixton and Koby Nichols both of Big Spring. She was preceded in death by her parents, Vernon and Eura (Stambaugh) Broyles; one brother, Byron Broyles and one sister-in-law, Maxie Broyles.
