Noel E. "Po-Pop" Johnson, 88, of Midland passed away Friday, October 31, 2003 at his home. A graveside service will be at 11:00 am on Monday, November 3, 2003 at Resthaven Memorial Park with Rev. Gary Groves, associate pastor of First Christian Church, officiating.He was born on September 23, 1915 to Asa and Mary Elizabeth Johnson in Ava, Missouri. Noel graduated from Ft. Stockton High School. He was the owner and operator of Johnson Pump Co. and had also farmed. During WW II he worked as a ship welder. Mr. Johnson was a lifetime member of the Disciples of Christ Church and a former member of the Davis Mountains Resort Volunteer Fire Department. Po-Pop has always been known for his quick wit and sly delivery, which often caught both friends and family off guard. His patience was admired and tested thoroughly by his family. Though not verbal with his affections, he confirmed his love for others by his actions. He was a man whose kindness impacted all of those who encountered him. There will be many fond stories of Po-Pop's adventures passed along for years to come.He was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings, Lon, Lela, Virgil, and Lillian. He is survived by his wife Cleo of Midland; two sons Noel D. Johnson and his wife Sally of San Angelo, and Norman Johnson and his wife LouAnn of Midland; one granddaughter Kayla Johnson Rogers and her husband Keith and two great grandchildren, Brennan and Hannah Rogers.
