Newton Edmond “Eddie” Peterson, 91, of Midland, Texas, passed away on May 5, 2016. Eddie was born on January 31, 1925, in Casper, Wyoming to Henry Jasper Peterson and Ruth Dyer Peterson.Eddie was inducted into the Navy on May 7, 1943 and married Rebecca “Billie” West on May 11, 1943, a mere 4 days later. He entered boot camp at Corpus Christi Texas Naval Air Station where he spent two years repairing crash boats. In June of 1945, Eddie was reassigned to radio school in Noroton Heights, Connecticut, as a member of GROPAC 13 in preparation for the invasion of Japan. He spent time repairing teletypes in Pearl Harbor and China prior to his Naval discharge in January 1946 at Camp Wallis in Hitchcock, Texas.Eddie and Billie had 2 children, Robert “Rob” Keith Peterson and Rebecca “Becke” Peterson Willis.Eddie was an electrician, first working in Galveston and Texas City before moving to Rockdale, Texas in 1955 to work as supervisor for Alcoa Aluminum for 31 years. He loved to tinker, could fix anything, and even built his own boat.Billie and Eddie moved to Kingwood, Texas in the late 80s upon Eddie’s retirement from Alcoa and moved to Midland in 2001 to be near their daughter, Becke. Eddie was a member of the 2015 Permian Basin Honor Flight to Washington D.C.Eddie is survived by his daughter, Becke of Midland, and son, Rob and wife, Carolyn, of Houston, Texas. Also surviving Eddie is his brother, Robert D. Peterson and wife Kathleen also of Houston, Texas.Eddie was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Ruth Peterson.The family would like to thank the staff and caregivers from Manor Park and Hospice of Midland.
