Neva Mae McKee Shaffer departed her earthly home on July 21, 2023. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am, Tuesday, July 25, 2023 at Trinity Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Mount Olive Memorial Park. She will lie in state Monday, July 24, 2023 from 11:00 am until 5:00 pm at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home.
Neva was born on August 15, 1925 in Howard County to Lewis and Veda McKee. She attended R Bar School and spent her entire life in Big Spring, Texas. At the age of 16, she met Roy P. Shaffer. Neva and Roy double dated with her sister, Rachel, and her boyfriend Jack, Roy’s brother. She and Roy were married on November 1, 1941. They were married 56 years until his death in 1997. Neva spent the majority of her life lovingly caring for their handicapped son. During that time though, she did sell Avon and Stanley Home Products. Later when Roy retired to stay home with their son, she went to work for the The Kid’s Shop and worked there from 1981-1995.
Neva and her family faithfully attended Trinity Baptist Church where she served for 67 years as the secretary of the Auditorium Bible Class.
Neva was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Roy Shaffer, son Roy Clayton (Buddy) Shaffer, sisters Frances Thomas, Rachel Shaffer and Mary Eggleston, brother Raymond McKee and son-in-law Bill Griffin.
She is survived by her daughter Connie Griffin of Midland, granddaughter Lisa Eaker and husband Robert of Sweetwater, great grandsons Garrison Eaker of Lubbock, Grayson and Elliott Eaker of Sweetwater. She is also survived by sisters Sue Whitaker of Burleson, Karen Murphy of Granbury, Jennie Shaw of Smyer and Delores Andrews and husband Ray of Odessa and numerous nieces and nephews.
