Nellie Tippie, 105, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, June 20, 2004, at Stanton Care and Rehabilitation Center in Stanton. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, June 23, 2004 at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel, Big Spring with Gary Tate, of Golf Course Road Church of Christ in Midland, officiating. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park.The famiy will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:00 PM, Tuesday, June 22, 2004, at the funeral home.She was born on July 4, 1898, in Shive, Texas and married Ernest M. Tippie on October 13, 1913 in Hamilton, Texas. He preceded her in death in December 1946. She was also preceded in death by her infant son, W. H. Tippie and then, her daughter, Christine Hartley in October of 1996. Nellie moved to Big Spring in 1940 and to Midland in 1990. She was a talented seamstress and after her husband's death she made her livelihood sewing for others and later worked for Swartz Dress Shop in Big Spring doing alterations. Granny loved to work in the yard and could grow anything that she planted. She always had a beautiful flower garden that she so graciously shared with others. She was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles and the V.F.W.She was a member of 14th and Main Church of Christ in Big Spring and the Golf Course Road Church of Christ in Midland. She lived her life for the Lord and received strength from God to live such a long and healthy life. At the age of sixty-seven, she took on the responsibility of raising two of her grandchildren, Jimmie Kirkland and Vickie Lirley.Survivors include two daughters, Ernestine Hammack of Midland and Mealdine Principe of Panama City, Florida; sixteen grandchildren; thirty-six great grandchildren and fifty-two great great grandchildren.The family suggests memorials to Stanton Care & Rehab, 1100 Broadway, Stanton, Texas 79782.Arrangements under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Big Spring.
