Nelda Rasure Mills, 85, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, January 28, 2024. Nelda was born April 15, 1938 to Lina Belle and Roy McIntosh in Rotan, Fisher County, Texas. The family will receive friends on Sunday, February 4, 2024 at 4:00PM-6:00PM at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home. A celebration of her life will be held at 2:00PM on Monday, February 5, 2024 at St. Nicholas Episcopal Church in Midland. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Tom Warden, Lee Majors, Rick Carlisle, Russ Ropkin, Don Rasure and Korey Rasure.
Nelda grew up on her family’s farm in Rotan, Texas before making her way to Midland. It was in Midland where she met and married Frank Rasure and they shared 30 loving and happy years. Their love was true and an example for so many others. After the passing of Frank, Nelda married Carvel Mills on August 4, 2007. She loved and cared for him until his passing in April 2019. She was confirmed on May 21, 1967 at Saint Nicholas Episcopal Church and remained a member until her death.
Nelda proudly worked at both the Cotton, Bledsoe, Tighe & Dawson (for 21 years) and the Stubbeman, McRae, Sealy, Laughlin & Browder (for 14 years) law firms where she made many lifelong friends. She retired from Cotton Bledsoe in December 2012. On her retirement, it was said that “she was the face and the voice of Cotton Bledsoe for many years. Nelda’s pleasant demeanor, kind nature, genuine care and concern for the clients and her coworkers and her attitude personifies Cotton Bledsoe. She has and continues to be a great example for everyone fortunate enough to know her.”
She was a devoted member of Alcoholics Anonymous where she celebrated more than 50 years of sobriety and where she guided and mentored many, many people. She said that her greatest gift to the young women that came into the program was being able to welcome and love each one. She shared her story all over Texas and throughout the United States. One of her greatest honors was being asked to speak at the International Conference in Canada in 2005.
Nelda was a patient and kind soul who loved with her whole heart and made lasting impacts on so many lives. Her appearance and demeanor were always polished and professional. She maintained her poise in all situations and always strived to be the most gracious hostess. She rarely carried on a conversation without taking the opportunity to share a story or a photo of her grandchildren who were the light of her life. Nelda loved birthdays and delighted in baking cakes and celebrating the milestones. She found much joy in gardening and caring for her flowers. She lived her life with grace and dignity and encouraged those she knew to do the same.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her sisters, Connie Falls and Dorothy Soliz, her brother, Roy Gail McIntosh, her stepson, John Rasure, and stepdaughter, Becky Rasure Bozich and two husbands, Carvel Mills and Frank Rasure.
She is survived by her stepson, Don Rasure and his wife, Jodie, her grandchildren Kelsie and Korey Rasure, and Katherine Bozich, numerous precious friends and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend our most sincere gratitude to the staff at Manor Park for the love and care they showed for Nelda and our family.
