Dr. Narendra Shroff, age 90, expired at his residence on Sunday, July 18. He was born on December 16, 1914 in Bombay, India. He graduated from Medical School in 1939, then joined Navy and the Army. He served in World War II and during that time he was stationed in Africa, Egypt and Madagaskar. After serving in the Army, he started his medical and dental practice in Banglore, India. In 1982 he retired from his practice and came to America to live with his son Nick Nipan Shroff and his family, and to be close to his daughter Bharati who lived in NY.He was married to Mrs. Ila Shroff for forty seven years till she passed away in 1987. He was a very active and alert man, who lived each day with so much enthusiasm and zest. He was a solid pillar of our community. For our Hindu Association of West Texas, he translated and compiled our prayer books of devotional songs, which will continue to be used for years to come. He was intimately involved with various charitable organizations here and abroad. Specifically he was the founder of a high school, enrolling over a 1000 students in Bangalore, India since 1962. The school still bears his name as Narendra High School.He was a generous man, great father and father-in-law and grandfather too. He always had a smile on his face and was affectionately known as 'Papa' by everyone. His will to live was very strong and he survived many major medical and surgical illness. Until his last days his memory and wit were very sharp.He is survived by his son and his wife, Nick Nipan and Leena Shroff of Midland, his daughter and her husband Bharati and Bhupendra Randeria also of Midland; two grand daughters Reema and her husband Naveen Kella and Rita Shroff, his nephews Himanshu and Manish and a cast of hundreds of family and extended family members.We honor his memories with Services scheduled for Tuesday, 1 p.m., July 20, 2004 at Nalley Pickle Funeral Home- 3800 N Big Spring St, Midland, TX, followed by concluding services at Trinity Memorial Park Crematory, 6900 S HW 87, Big Spring, TX.Memorials may be directed to the Hindu Association of West Texas, 4401 Cardinal Lane, Midland, TX 79707.,
