Nancy Lavena Brooks King (Lavena) was born November 24, 1928 in Greenville, TX to Leona and Pary Arthur Brooks. She passed from this life Friday, November 11, 2016.Lavena lived in Pecos County, TX until she started school, when she and her Mother moved to Midland for her to attend school. She graduated from Midland High School. She met and married Roy Goodman King (Shorty) King February 7, 1948. They worked ranches in Texas and New Mexico for many years. Lavena cooked for the cowboys and rode with them working cattle for many years. She was an incredible cook and always wanted to make sure there was enough for everyone to get their fill.In 1980 she and Shorty bought out M & M Pump and began to build King Windmill and Pump, Inc. Lavena worked the rig while Shorty pulled the pumps. They worked alongside one another once again until their son, Wyn, came to work with them. At that time she began to work the phone and taking calls.She was preceded in death by her parents, Leona and P.A., two brothers, Jim Brooks, and James Brooks; two sons, Rocky Roy and Lyn Quirt. She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Shorty; son, Wyn and wife Cyn; one sister, Nancy Diggs and husband J.D. of La Grange, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews.The family will receive guests from 6:00pm to 8:00pm, Monday, November 14, 2016 at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at 11:00am, Tuesday, November 15, 2016 at Greenwood Cemetery with Robert Frazier, officiating.Pallbearers will be nephew, Brandon Diggs, Shannon Diggs, Sid Hutchinson, Stephen Taylor and great nephews, Jay Taylor, Seth Diggs, Austin Diggs, and Tyler Eppler.In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial be made to Hospice of Midland, 911 W Texas AVE, Midland, TX 79701.,
