Nadine Frances Dees Hicks Hays, 88, of Midland, TX passed away on Wednesday, August 22, 2018. A visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. on Friday, August 31, 2018 at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.Nadine Dees was born on November 15, 1929 in Balmorhea, TX to Willie and Albert Dees. She was the youngest of ten children, all of which preceded her in death. Her sisters were Kathleen Massey, Thelma Bowington, Beryl Culver, Bernice Courtney, and Lois Chandler. Her brothers were Johnny Massey, Joel Massey, Walter Massey and Wilford Dees.Nadine Does married Henry Barnes Hicks on May 20, 1945. He preceded her in death on August 12, 1979. On April 10, 1981, Nadine and Curtis Ray Hays were married. He also preceded her in death on January 14, 2004.Nadine Hicks Hays was a homemaker. Her sweet hands crocheted many doilies, collars, vests and gifts. Her sewing skills included baby doll clothes, garments, formals and even Sharon’s wedding dress. Her family and friends enjoyed her tasty cooking and she was famous for her buttermilk pie. She loved board games and her children, grandchildren and friends enjoyed many many game nights along with desserts afterward. She was a faithful member of Crestview Baptist Church in Midland, TX. She sang in the choir and played handbells for the Christmas Contata. Nadine was, also, a prayer warrior for countless. For many years she was in charge of the meals provided by Crestview for others whenever needed. Nadine was a strong woman evidenced by the fact that she was a cancer survivor. Her journey with cancer was after both her husbands passed. Being extremely proud of her Texas heritage, she was a member of Austin’s “Old 300”, which were the first 300 settlers to receive land grants in Stephen F Austin’s first colony in Mexico. In 1824 most of the Old Three Hundred were settled in Texas. She was also a member of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas and served as a past president of the Aaron Estes Chapter. Nadine had eleven ancestors who served in the Republic of Texas (1836-1846), some of which were Texas Rangers.Nadine is survived by four children: Sharon Gaines and husband, Gary, of Lubbock, TX; Larry Hicks and wife, Treva, of Seguin, TX; Lola Swint and husband, Jerry, soon to be of Hamilton, TX; and Cathy Landon, of New York City.Nadine has four grandchildren: Bradley Gaines and Debbie Gaines of Lubbock, TX; Nicole Strader and husband, Glen, of Abilene, TX; Andy Swint and wife, Brandy, of Bakersfield, CA; and Nancy Henkes and husband, Mark, of Hamilton, TX.She is also survived by ten great-grandchildren: Avery, Bailey, Parker, and Jude, Strader; Ainsley Gaines; Madison, Myles, and Morgan Henkes; and Ryan and Emma Swint.The family would like to express their gratitude towards: Interim Healthcare; Kim DeLeon, her Hospice nurse; Dr. Michael Roffers; Sister’s Loving Arms and staff, especially Jessica Bowlie and Amanda Morales.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to American Cancer Society, National Hospice Foundation, or Gideons International.Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Midland.
