Mrs. Coats was the retired owner, with her husband, of Capitol Music Company, and a nearly life-long resident of Baton Rouge, LA. She was born in August 1921, in rural Zwolle, LA. Joe and Josephine Rivers fifth child, she grew up in nearby Many, LA with her sisters Lillie May, Pearl, Gladys, and Helen, and her brother Woodrow. She was 96 years old.She is reunited with her husband, Henry E. “Pete” Coats, Sr. and her son Henry E. “Buddy” Coats, Jr. who both preceded her in death. She is survived by her daughter, Alice C. Martty, Baton Rouge; her grandchildren, Ronald Ashley Coco and his wife Debby, Midland, TX, and Kyle Martty and her husband Floyd “Tripp” Patin III, Arlington, TX; and her great-grandchildren, Jesse K. Travis, Schertz, TX, Lauren Spears and her husband Lincoln, Charleston, WV, and Floyd Patin IV, Las Vegas, NV; as well as her great-great-grandson Grady Kurt Travis.She married her husband in 1940 and they were married for 58 years until his death in 1998. They were known throughout the community and churches of south Louisiana for their donations of pianos and other instruments. Her teaching and influence touched the lives of many and will continue to for some time. She passed away peacefully and will be dearly missed.In a graveside service, she will be intered next to her husband on Saturday, September 9th, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. in Baton Rouge at Resthaven Gardens of Memory, 11817 Jefferson Hwy, Baton Rouge, LA.
