Myrtle Kilgore Keele, 99, of Big Spring, died on Tuesday, July 23, 2002, in a local nursing home. Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM Saturday, July 27, 2002, at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel with Rev. Walter McCall, chaplain with Odyssey Hospice, officiating. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park. Had our mother lived nine more days, she would have been one hundred years old. She was a happy loving mother who loved her extended family.Myrtle was born on August 1, 1902 in Guion, Arkansas to John and Mattie Horton. Her family moved to Texas in a railroad car when she was young. Myrtle was married to Grady W. Kilgore on August 8, 1920. He preceded her in death November 22, 1960. She became a waitress during World War II and worked at the Wagon Wheel Restuarant. Later she and Grady ran the Ranch Inn Cafe. On February 1, 1966 she married Arvel Keele and lived in Stanton, Texas for twelve years. Arvel passed away April 28, 1978. Myrtle moved into Canterbury South and lived there for 18 years. She was active in the RSVP. She was a baptist and belonged to the Airport Baptist Church. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Benny R. and Ann Kilgore of Garland and Dr. J. Gale and Sue Kilgore of Big Spring; two daughters and sons-in-law, Marie and John W. Hughes of Big Spring and Jo Ann and Edward Bauer of South Weymouth, Massachusetts; a step daughter, Betty Gray and husband, Bob of Monahans; 19 grandchildren including, Sandra Woods, Ben Kilgore and wife, Janet, and John Kilgore all of Big Spring; 32 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Velma Walker; two sons, Grady E. Kilgore and James S. Kilgore; a granddaughter, Julie Ann Kilgore; and a great-grandson, Kelley Woods. Pallbearers will be Jae Walker, Grant Walker, Greg Kilgore, Michael Kilgore, Jason Woods, John C. Hughes, James Phillip Kilgore, Jerry Kilgore, David Hughes and Todd Hughes.
