Myrtle E. McElreath-Williams, 95, of Ft. Worth, formerly of Big Spring, finished her days here on earth, December 12, 2007, joining her Lord and loved ones in Heaven. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, December 15, 2007 at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel, Big Spring with her son, Rev. Weldon McElreath, officiating. Interment will follow at Mount Olive Memorial Park, Big Spring. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM Friday at the funeral home.She was born, Myrtle Estelle Lancaster, on August 24, 1912, in Comanche County, Texas to Zona Arlena and J. L. Lancaster.Myrtle was one of nine children. At the age of 9, she and her family moved to Big Spring traveling by covered wagon for three months, as her father worked at various farms along the way to finance the trip. She attended school in Fairview, Texas and began teaching Sunday School at 18 years of age. She married Jesse J. McElreath in 1928 and they farmed in Howard County. Jesse was later employed by Continental Oil Company before entering the ministry in 1940. They attended Wayland Baptist College together for two years. Jesse's pastorates were in Plainview, Sunnyside, Lee's Community and Airport Baptist Church in Big Spring. In each of these ministries, Myrtle was an active and involved pastor's wife. Jesse died in 1948. Myrtle met and married Artie Williams of Big Spring in 1950 and he died in 1959.Myrtle became food coordinator for Big Spring School District; later for Texas Tech University Athletic Department, and then to Howard County Senior Citizen Center, before ending her career at First Baptist Church, Big Spring, in 1985. She was a member of College Baptist Church.Survivors include four sons and daughters-in-law, Weldon and Gloria McElreath of Holly Lake Ranch, Bill and Donna McElreath of Jacksboro, Jesse and Darlene McElreath of Ft. Worth, and Ronnie and Pam Williams of Artesia, New Mexico; one daughter and son-in-law, Irene and Merle Ringener of Big Spring; two sisters, Eldora Caughey and Marie Chapman both of Big Spring; ten grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews."Memo" was special to all of us.
