ADELLE GRISHAMMyra Adelle Grisham, 90 of Midland, passed away on January 7, 2004 in a local care facility. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, January 12, 2004 at Lovington Cemetery in Lovington, New Mexico. A visitation will be held on Sunday, January 11, 2004 from 2:30 to 4:30 pm at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home in Midland.Myra was born October 31, 1913 in Spur, TX to William Bender and Zula Snowden. She grew up on a farm near Clovis, New Mexico, and attended school at country schools in Greer and Ranchvale. She graduated from Ranchvale High School at the age of fifteen and then took business courses at Clovis High School. Because of that she was admitted early into nursing training at St. Anthony's School of Nursing in Amarillo. After she obtained her RN degree, she went to New York City to study at Manhattan Eye, Ear, Nose, and Throat. She also worked there at Cornell University Hospital. She returned to Amarillo to work for a woman doctor. Those were big steps for a young country girl raised by a single mother and grandmother. Then a tall, handsome Allen Grisham swept her off her feet. They married and spent many years working together as partners in raising a family, farming in Eastern New Mexico and building a business, A & A Feed Store in Lovington, New Mexico. Their lives centered on their faith and their family. They helped to build Jackson Avenue Baptist Church in Lovington from a mission to a thriving church. Together they participated in Gideons, Lay Witness and prison ministries. Adelle particularly loved working in the nursery, organizing the church library, and being a greeter. Those activities matched her serving heart and friendly spirit. For the past seven years she has been a member of First Baptist Church of Midland. Some of their best years were spent at their home on Lake LBJ. Those were years when their grandchildren were young and loved to go to the lake to play in the river with their grandmother. Their other retirement years were spent in Carlsbad, New Mexico. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Allen Grisham, her parents, and her sister, Billie Rauch. She is survived by her children: Jean and Harild Dean of Midland, TX, Allene and Ron Gilliam of Lubbock, TX, JoDell and Paul Ricker of Sandy, OR and Patti Jo and Bill Grisham of Artesia, NM, her grandchildren: Dean Ricker and Dan Novak of Chicago, Ill., Jay Trace Gilliam of Norman, OK, DeeAnn & David Fisher of Portland, OR, Amy & Kylee Vest of Artesia, NM, Stephanie Parker of Denver City, TX, Dolan Dean of Dimmitt, TX and Brian & Suzanne Dean of Lubbock, TX; her great grandchildren: Wyatt Allen & Katie Lewis Fisher of Portland, OR, Braxton Baker of Artesia, NM, Whitney & Jacob Parker of Denver City, TX; one sister, Mary Jackson of Dallas, TX and three nieces and one nephew. The family would like to express thanks to: Joann Rice, caregiver, who added spice to some of her last years And could walk in with some lipstick and perfume and do more healing than the medicine did. The staff at Trinity Haven Healthcare Center who took time to talk to her and love her, and to Doctors McLarey and Vogel and Home Hospice for their loving care before God saw fit to take her home. The family suggests memorials be made to C/SARA Foundation, Inc.
