Mrs. J. T. "Cleo" Byers, 97, of Big Spring, died on Saturday, October 8, 2005, in a local hospital. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday, October 12, 2005 at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel with Rev. Arnold Tonn, pastor of Spring Tabernacle, officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Olive Memorial Park.She was born on October 8, 1908, in Mart, Texas and married James Troy Byers on July 25, 1925 in Big Spring, Texas. He preceded her in death on September 19, 1958.Mrs. Byers came to Big Spring in 1911 from Mart. She attended LVN school at Howard College and worked as a LVN at Cowper Hospital for 18 years and at the Bennett House for 8 years. She had been a member of First Baptist Church since 1925 and was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Brotherhood of Trainmen and the Royal Neighbors.Survivors include three sons, Dewey Byers of Big Spring, James L. Byers of Kingsland and Melvin Byers of Siloam Springs, Arkansas; seven grandchildren, seven great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; and eight nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by two daughters, Bonnie Melton in 1991 and Janetta Whetsel in 1999; two sisters; three brothers; one grandchild; two brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law.
