Mona Idelle Elmore of Fredericksburg, Texas passed away on Friday May 5, 2023, at the age of 84. She was born on September 3, 1938, in Cherokee, Texas. She is preceded in death by her husband Charles “Chuck” Elmore and parents RT and Margert Altizer.
Mona is survived by her son Mitch Elmore (Donna) of Fredericksburg, TX and two daughters Nan Pittman (Kevin) of Wolfforth, TX, and Kaki Elemento (Ernie) of Dalton, Georgia, nine grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
She graduated from Cherokee High School. Mona married Chuck in 1959 in Cherokee, Texas. Mona graduated from Southwest Texas State University in 1961.
Mona was a dedicated member of First United Methodist Church in Stanton and served in many roles in
Support of the church. Mona retired from teaching at Stanton ISD in 2001, after 40 years of service.
Mona loved quilting and has made many quilts including a high school graduation and wedding quilts for all her grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Stanton, Texas on Thursday, May 11, 2023 at 11 am, in Stanton, Texas and Memorial services at First Methodist Church in Cherokee, Texas on Saturday, May 13, 2023, at 11 a.m.
Memorials in lieu of flowers may be made to First United Methodist Church of Stanton, Martin County Senior Center in Stanton, Texas or Hill Country Memorial Hospice in Fredericksburg.

I love the picture. That smile was never far away, even when she was in frustrated teacher mode! Mrs. Elmore was my math teacher in junior high and had both patience and a very effective way of breaking down the components of a problem, whether it had to do with math or life. I still love math and she's the first one who taught me to see it as a puzzle. I'm old enough now that she's been "Mona" to me for some time and I loved seeing her at my home church when I was back in Texas. Still just as welcoming, just as interested as she'd always been. I thought, and still think of her voice, as lyrical. There was music in it, full of the joy she shared in every word, every twinkle, every laugh. My condolences to her family and all who loved her.

Mrs. Elmore was one of the reasons I made it to college. She believed in me and made math enjoyable. She also encouraged me in my ealry teaching career. I was blessed by this wonderful Christian lady.

We are so sorry for your loss. It was our privilege to meet Mona and to have her precious granddaughter in our family.
