Milton Carroll "Whip" Johnson, 78, of Sand Springs, died on Wednesday, May 4, 2005, in a local hospital. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, May 10, 2005 at the VA Hospital Chapel in Big Spring with Chaplain Dean Thomas, officiating.Born on September 27, 1926 in Bronson, Texas, Whip was the oldest of 6 sons.Whip retired as a Chief Master Sergeant after 30 years in the United States military. He served for three years in the United States Navy and twenty-seven years in the United States Air Force. Mr. Johnson received the U.S. Bronze Star and the U.S. Commemorative Award for outstanding service.After military retirement he moved to the Big Spring area in 1974 and built the "Whip-In RV Park" off of I-20 in Sand Springs.Whip has been an active member of the Non-Commissioned Officer's Association and of the Disabled American Veterans. He was a faithful volunteer at the Big Spring VA Hospital for over 10 years and had received the male volunteer of the year twice. The VA staff and volunteers were his second family. Mr. Johnson also volunteered serving meals at the Big Spring Senior Citizens.Survivors include his wife, Beverly Johnson of Sand Springs; two sons, Dwayne of San Antonio and Ronald of West Point, Texas; one daughter, Sissi; his step mother, Estil Johnson; three half brothers, Buddy, Keith and Randy; several grandchildren and great grandchildren all of Texas. He was preceded in death by one son, Carroll; his parents, Carroll Lopez and Blanche Johnson and two brothers, Tommy and Paul Johnson.
