Miley “Genelle” Tibbs, 84, of Big Spring, Texas, died Saturday, October 7, 2023, at her residence.
Genelle was born March 26, 1939, in Ranger, Texas to Miley George Young and Anna Lee Meadors Young. She has been a loving Wife, Mother, Granny, and Great Granny, giving special attention to spiritual guidance and prayer for each family member. She was a homemaker and devoted mother to all her children and grandchildren, and for a short time in the early 1980s worked in bookkeeping at Security State Bank. She was a faithful member of Trinity Baptist Church.
Music was a very important part of her life, especially hymns and gospel music. She had a beautiful voice and sang with her family and with church choirs all of her life. She met Weldon Tibbs early in their life in 1952 and they were married in 1954. They celebrated 62 years of marriage before Weldon passed away in 2016. They were blessed by God every one of those years. She was selflessly devoted to her husband every single day and was always by his side. They never left each other without a goodbye kiss, including before he left this life to begin eternity with Jesus. Genelle missed him dearly every day this past 7 years, and finally had that long-awaited reunion she was praying for.
Genelle is survived by two daughters, Sheryl Ann Tibbs Allen of Austin, TX and Karen Wilson and husband, Jeff, of Big Spring, TX, and (great grand) Son, Ranen Wilson, of Big Spring, TX. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Belinda Shiplett and husband, Kyle, of Moore, OK; Karyl Ward and husband, Adam, of Austin, TX; Karissa Wilson of Ackerly, TX; Laura Lipham and husband, TJ, of Big Spring; Joshua Wilson and wife, Kelly, of Coahoma, TX; and 11 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Weldon Tibbs; one son, Garry Weldon Tibbs; one great-grandson, Tate Wilson; her parents, and four brothers: Carl Wayne Young, Burt Dean Young, Ronald Lee Young, and Ray Allen Young.
