Mildred Whitt, known by her family and friends as "Tootsie", passed away on November 23, 2009, in Midland, Texas. Tootsie was born on December 20, 1920, in Grosbeck, Texas, the daughter of Luther and Willy May Davis. Tootsie married Keith Whitt in August 1940, and they moved to Gorman, Texas in 1948. Tootsie graduated as a Registered Nurse from the Shannon School of Nursing in San Angelo, Texas in 1944. After raising her two children, she returned to nursing, most recently as the Director of Nurses at Dublin Hospital. She enjoyed her years in the training program for the LVNs that she founded at the Dublin Hospital, and was proud of the success of her students, not one of which failed their State Boards. Tootsie was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Gorman, Texas, for fifty years. She enjoyed a life-long love of playing bridge, reading, dancing, daily crossword puzzles, and Bible study.Keith preceded Tootsie in death in November 1989. Tootsie moved to the Sun City retirement community in Georgetown, Texas, in 1998 and moved to Helen Greathouse Center at Manor Park, Texas, in 2006. Tootsie is survived by her children, Tomasine Payne of Dallas, and Robert Whitt and his wife, Joan, of Midland, and grandchildren, Jason Whitt and Jessica Whitt, both of New York City, as well as numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom she loved dearly.
