She said many times that Life is too short not to laugh and have fun. Family and friends were Mildreds passion and delight. Because she dedicated her life to helping others, she was the recipient of the Paul Harris Fellow Award that was presented to her by her nephew Virgil Barber. This award recognized the many hours and years that she dedicated to serving those that needed to be driven from Big Spring to Midland to receive cancer treatments. Also, she used her love for baking by making over 1,500 loaves of bread and many pounds of peanut brittle. She sold these to support the Relay for Life and gave much away as a token of thanks. Her love for cooking was spread around for all to love and enjoy. In 1945, Mildred married Jim Franklin and moved to Lenorah, Texas where they invested their time in farming, traveling and community events. Mildred was a housewife that devoted herself to her family, friends, and those in need of help.
