It is with great sorrow that the family of Mickie Kathleen “Kathy” Briggs Luttrell announces her unexpected passing on Thursday, February 27, 2025 at the age of 73.

Kathy was born on December 10, 1951 in Tahlequah, Oklahoma to Charles Wendell and Flo Vesta Briggs. She grew up in Houston and moved to Midland as a teen. It was there in Midland that she met her soulmate, Steve, while attending Lee High School. They married in 1976 and had three children together, Susie, Jeremiah and Seven. She raised her family in Midland and worked as a secretary and paralegal until she retired and moved to Austin in the mid-90’s. She was an extraordinary mom and wife, spending her later years with her husband Steve supporting him in his art endeavors. She returned to Midland last year after Steve’s death to be near their son, Jeremiah, and his family.

Her family will never forget how fiercely she loved them and will take comfort in all the good memories. Memories of her great dance moves, her welcoming smile, her big laugh, and how she gave THE BEST hugs. Her loss will be felt deeply by those who knew and loved her. Rest in paradise Mom and we hope you’re laughing and dancing with Dad again!

Kathy was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved husband of 48 years, Stephen Frank “Steve” Luttrell who passed away on March 30, 2024. She leaves behind her children, Susie Hawk (Byron) of Columbia, SC, Jeremiah Luttrell (Stephanie) of Midland, TX and Seven Luttrell (Erin) of Austin, TX and her grandchildren, Alex and Aidan Hawk and Ethan and Lexi Luttrell. She is also survived by her siblings Mike Briggs (Carol), Patricia Hill (Roy) and John David Briggs (Katrina), as well as her nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Steve and Kathy’s lives will be held in Midland in April.

Dearest Suzie. Jeremiah, Seven, Spouses+Grandchildren: It is with our deepest sympathies we send our condolences for your precious Mom. Really enjoyed the reading her Informative Eulogy!! Good job writing that!!One of the Memories Uncle Mike had was when your Mom was a baby; he was just a toddler!! Grandmother was still recovering from the polio… it was his job to push Kathy in the stroller on their walks!! Guess what?? He has always been very responsible!!! Also, on vacation trips to your Grandmother’s in OK and Lake Tinkiller, they would fight and argue in the backseat of car on the long journey!! My memory of your Mom was that she was always eager to please; extremely compassionate to everyone, kind hearted and passionately loved her husband + children!! I also know she loved the Lord Jesus and Christian music!! She shared with me fairly recently one of her favorite songs was”Long Black Train” by Josh Turner! We look forward to being united with her again in Heaven when it our time!! In the days ahead, we pray God’s presence, love, grace, comfort, compassion and peace fills you hearts!
