Mike (Michael) Madison, 74, of Stanton, Texas, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, at Midland Memorial Hospital with his wife by his side. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, July 18, 2026, at Lenorah Baptist Church.

Mike was born on March 24, 1952, in Big Spring, Texas, to Dick Madison and Nadine Cross. Mike spent most of his life working in the oil field until his retirement in 2019 after which he spent his time relaxing and not dealing with computers.

Mike exemplified the strongest work ethic throughout his life and dedicated himself to providing for his family. Taking a sick day was a foreign concept. He loved reading about everything guns to the point he knew the delivery schedule of certain magazines at the store. If you ever came to visit there was always a stack of magazines right next to his favorite chair. When he was not reading, he loved watching shows about WWII or Vietnam. Mike’s faith was an important part of who he was, and his love of God guided the way he lived, loved, and cared for others. He trusted in the Lord’s presence and found strength, comfort, and peace through that faith. Above all else, Mike loved his family. They were the center of his life. He loved deeply and showed that, not only through his words, but through his actions every day. He was a man who led through example, demonstrating the importance of love, loyalty, kindness, and commitment. His family knew they were loved because he made sure, they always felt it.

Mike is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Judy Madison of Stanton, daughter Michelle Madison Steele and husband Greg of Abbott, son Michael Madison and wife Tina of Lexington, grandsons Luke Steele, Grant Steele, Jackson Steele, and Joseph Madison, granddaughter Rebekah Madison, sisters Barbara (Susie) Edmisten and Ginger Tunnel, and brothers Roy Madison and Bobby Holland.

He was preceded in death by his mother Nadine Cross, father Dick Madison, stepmother Jody Madison, and brother Bob Madison.

A special thank you to Hospice for the exceptional care, comfort, and support provided during his final days. Your care and kindness brought comfort to him and peace to our family during his final days.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to either Hospice of Midland, The American Heart Association, or The American Cancer Society in Mike’s memory.

Years ago, Mike and I were discussing his promotion to a driller position. It was my understanding that he was the youngest person in his company to hold that position, and might possibly be the youngest driller in the Permian Basin. I made a comment to Mike that I had lived in West Texas all my life and had never worked on a rig. Well a few weeks later, Mike came by my house and ask me if I was still interested in getting some experience on a rig. He said he had a crew member that was wanting to take a week off and he needed someone to fill his position while he was gone. I was able to get a weeks vacation from my employer and Mike and his crew came by and picked me up and off I went on a new adventure. Mike had discussed with his crew ahead of time that I was a greenhorn on rigs. When we got on location, they were in the process of breaking down 88 stands of drill pipe that was in the derrick and was getting ready to lay the rig down and move it to a new location. Mike and his crew watched over me, Showed me what I was expected to do. Needless to say, I got a lot of exposure to what working on a rig was about. During all of this, I could see why Mike had the position he did. He was well respected by not only his crew, but by all that interacted with him. Every time I drive by a rig, I think about Mike and his crew and when someone ask me if I have ever worked on a rig, I can truthfully say yes, and add that I was privileged to have worked with one of the best. Thank you Mike!

Mike and I grew up together in Stanton. We played sports together in Junior High and High School and graduated together in 1970. I was able to do work for Mike and Judy in later years as we reconnected. It was always good to catch up and relive the old Stanton days. Mike was a strong Christian and a man of integrity. I know he was a great husband, father, grandfather and friend. Our prayers are with Judy, Michelle, Michael and all of the family. Steve and Kathy Stallings
