Michael Earl Waters was born on November 24, 1954, in Commerce Texas. He was the fourth child of Mr. Robert E. Waters and Mrs. Velma K. Waters.
Michael was born and spent his young childhood in Commerce Texas. When he was a teenager the family moved to the town of Carthage Texas, where he attended Carthage High school and later graduated in 1972. Shortly after Michael’s graduation from high school, he enlisted in the Navy. After serving his time in the Navy he received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas Permian Basin and his master’s degree from Texas Tech University. Michael always had a thirst for knowledge which led him to pursue his doctorate degree. However, upon completing all required coursework, he wasn’t given the opportunity to defend his dissertation.
Michael began his professional career as a Psychologist for Big Spring State Hospital. Michael had an entrepreneur spirit and decided to start his own business in the home health care and medical supplies industry. Michael was able to reach 10 locations in West Texas, Ft. Worth and Dallas, Texas. Michael was an avid member of the Midland and Permian Basin Black Chamber of Commerce. One of Michael’s greatest accomplishments in his career, was when he was recognized as the “Best of the Best” award for business owners from the Texas Association of African American Chamber of Commerce in 2010.
Michael accepted Christ at an early age. Michael’s Christian journey began at the First Church of God in Christ in Carthage, Texas. He continued to serve the Lord when he joined Alexander Temple Church of God in Christ of Midland Texas, where he held several positions serving the community as well as the Lord, and he was a faithful member.
Michael was preceded in death by his father, Robert E. Waters, nephew, Dustin Waters, his mother, Velma K. Waters, niece, Dr. Charisma Danielle Pope, and sister, Apryl Waters.
He leaves to honor his legacy and cherish his memories are his daughters, Ferronica Briggs, Shamoya (Aaron) Pope, Shante Jones, and his son Michael Waters II, grandchildren, Breana Jones, Preston Pope; great grandchildren, Dy’Korrion Moore and Kamyra Woods; siblings, Larry (Joyce) Waters, Dorothi (CF) Pope, Gloria (Bobby) Gibson, Yolanda Williams, Ruth Shellman (Sanford Robinson), Charles Waters and Richard (Queen) Waters. He leaves many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
