Michael “Mike” Mestas, 47, passed away on Wednesday, April 25, 2018. The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 pm on Tuesday, May 1, 2018 at The Branch at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home. Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, May 2, 2018 and 2:00 pm at the Episcopal Church of the Holy Trinity in Midland.Mike was born on April 3, 1971 to Lynne and John Mestas in Colorado Springs, Colorado, and lived every moment in his life as if it was significant. Whether it be the nightly family dinner, fishing with his parents, or training for the next race, he lived life to its fullest. Many of those family memories were centered on the outdoors, as he passed down his love of camping, hiking, and exploring, to his two daughters Lola and Mary. Mike was a loving husband to his wife of 20 years, Rooney and was always her calm in any storm. When he wasn’t making memories with his family, Mike was swimming, biking, and running, as he trained for his favorite pastime, triathlons. One of his greatest attributes was his ability to motivate others to live their best life. Whether he was encouraging his daughters to try a new skill, or a fellow triathlete training for the next race, he truly brought out the best in every person he met. You could see his firm work ethic in all he accomplished as a Geosteering Specialist with Cimarex Energy Co. His strong moral compass was deeply rooted in his belief in the Golden Rule, and he felt that what you put out into the world is what you get back. Whether he was whistling as he worked or making playlists, his love of music was evident. Though Mike was extremely focused, those who spent time with him always walked away with a smile on their face thanks to his sense of humor. For all the things he will be remembered for, his true legacy will be his daughters.Mike is survived by his wife, Rooney Mestas; daughters, Lola and Mary Jane; parents, Lynne & John Mestas; sister, Jennifer Mestas, and grandfather, \Gramps\ Jose MestasHe is preceded in death by his grandparents, Harold & Marjorie Spradling and Minnie Mestas. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be donated to the Midland YMCA, Restoration Farms or Lone Star Animal ShelterArrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Midland.
