It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of a beloved family man, avid sports fan, and a friend to all who met him. Michael Dale Huffman, 61, of Midland, TX, passed away peacefully on January 7th, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was a man whose big heart was matched only by his quick wit and enduring love for those closest to him.
Born in Gatesville, TX on March 12th, 1964, Michael dedicated much of his life to working in the challenging environment of the oilfields. It was a career that took him many places, but he always returned to his roots and the people he cherished most. He was known among colleagues for his strong work ethic and, of course, his seemingly endless supply of funny stories and witty remarks that could brighten even the longest shifts. Outside of work, Michael’s passions were simple but deeply held. He was a devoted fan of NASCAR, rarely missing a race, and a lifelong, proud supporter of the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys. Game days were a special time, often accompanied by lively commentary and enthusiastic cheers. Yet, his real joy in life wasn’t found in a racetrack or on a football field; it was found in the laughter and company of his family and friends. A good man through and through, he found his greatest happiness in being around the people he loved, especially his cherished grandchildren. Being their Papa lit up his world, and he, in turn, lit up theirs with his humor and kindness. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and a reminder to always appreciate the simple moments with family.
Michael is survived by Sonya, his devoted wife of 31 years, his children, John and his wife Elizabeth, and Michael; and his three grandchildren, Julianna Rose, Nathaniel Dale, and Penelope Beth. His siblings Tony Huffman and wife Sharon, Tammy Huffman, Kimberly and husband Robbie Woodruff, Buddy Huffman, Stacy and husband Derek Courtney, many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents Dale Huffman and Nadine Huffman.
A visitation will be held at 1:00pm on January 13th at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel at 906 S Gregg St, Big Spring, TX. Funeral service will follow at 2:00pm.
