This unexpected loss must be hard for all who love him. I certainly hope that you all can find your peace somehow. I was shocked to hear the bad news and I certainly hope there is something better for him now. Sorry you have gone so soon, goodbye Michael.

Cowboy is my hero. When I was a kid and he'd come to MS in the summer, it was like a holiday! Uncle Smiley would bring him over to our house and the whole family would gather together to eat and play cards. The three-man crew--my papaw (Earl Canada), Uncle Smiley, and my Daddy(Ronnie Norwood)--would haul him off to the lake before daylight the next morning. They never failed to return without a "mess" of crappie, perch, catfish, bass, and sometimes even a gar or ghasper-goo!!! I think they just fished til the beer cooler was empty and the fish cooler was full !! They'd clean their catch under our pecan tree and tell lies about who caught the most and what got away. We'd have a fish fry that night and play cards till all hours of the nite! 30 years later, we have re-bonded with each other and our cousins and all our children to form the family we all so desperately wanted and needed. We had 5 glorious years as the Smith CCousins and I wouldn't change a thing! We only get one life to live, if you don't like yours, change it ! I love you Cowboy. We will meet again . .Cotton

Mike was a very good friend since 7th grade, I was so blessed having him as a best friend. He was one of the most memorable persons I have had in my life. Growing up with Mike taught me what a true friend was. I will miss my friend so very much and my prayers are for his family to have God help them through this very hard time. Goodbye my friend, until we meet again in heaven.

Our memories of Mike will last us a lifetime. We both had the honor and the privledge of working with Mike for 14-1/2 years at FCI Big Spring. Our time together at work, with the AFGE Union Local, the Disturbance Control Team, and outside of work, will long be remebered. He was a good, honest, hard-working man, who earned the love and respect of all who knew him. Although we can't be there, our thoughts and prayers are with each of his family and friends. May you find comfort and strength in our Lord's loving arms to see you through these most difficult times. Please don't hestitate to call us, if there is anything we can do. God bless you all.
Peace of mind is a call away. We’re here when you need us most.

Lou Ann and Family, I am so sorry to hear of the loss of Michael. I wish we could be there to be with you at this sad time. I can't imagine losing our children so soon and will keep you in my prayers until I can see you in person. We don't always understand God's purpose, but comfort in the knowing that we will one day be together in heaven and put our arms around all of our passed loved ones. I know Aunt Dell and Smiley were there to greet him and show him the way. With love, Michal and Family

I met Mike many years ago when he and Punkin (Patricia) were dating (before the boys were even born) through a friend of mine, Karen Sherrod. I ran into him again about a year ago and was sorry to hear that they had divorced. He was still the same friendly and caring person that he was back then. I had the privilege of getting to know him again as a friend in the last year. Mike was a remarkable man and a friend to everyone that I knew that knew him. God Bless his family I know you will miss him greatly.

"No farewell words were spoken, No time to say Good-Bye, You were gone before we knew it, and only God knows why." "There was thunder from the Throne and Seven Spanish Angels came to take another Angel Home!" Michael loved me and I loved him right back. He never judged me, criticized me and only looked for the good things. The times we shared together on "the deck" and on "the lake" and on the "golf course" are my most precious memories! We will miss you, but rest assured that we will be here for Jason and Dustin! "If tears could build a staircase, and memories a lane, we'd walk our way to Heaven, and bring you home again." We love you, Johnny & Ruth

Words alone cannot describe the love I had for Michael. We shared a bond that was unmatched by none other. He treated me with the respect and love that will be in my heart forever. Our personal talks will be memories that no one will ever take away. He will be in my thoughts for all the days that are left for me here on earth. I was so blessed to have him in my life. Michael you will never be forgotten. " Love You Man"

We had the privilege to work with Mike for nearly 20 years at the prison. He was a hard-worker, a friend to many, and went above and beyond helping his co-workers as Union President. Carl and I know all too well how the FCI staff can come together during sad and difficult times. Please know that although we are not there with you physically, you are carried in our hearts and we pray that you will find the strength and faith to get through the coming days. Our thoughts and prayers are also with his sons, his mom, and the rest of his family during this difficult time. God Bless you, Mike, you will be missed. Carl Wayne & Billie Sue

Mike was a great friend from the time I started at FCI 18 yrs ago. We had a ton of laugh's and good times. Jason and Dustin you should be so proud of your Dad, he is a great man and loved by many. Mike and I had "debates" about who had the best chili, and would always end in a great time for us both...Rest in Peace my Brother, we will miss you.
