Michael J. Braskett, 73, of Big Spring and formerly of Midland and Lubbock, passed away Thursday, January 5, 2023 at Scenic Mountain Medical Center. A Funeral Mass will be held at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Big Spring, at 10:00 am Wednesday, January 11, 2023. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday morning from 8:00 am until 9:30 am. Interment with military honors will be held at 3:00 pm Wednesday, January 11, 2023 at Resthaven Memorial Park, Lubbock, TX.
Michael was born in Columbus, Ohio on April 15, 1949. Michael was retired from the United States Air Force and had served for 26 years and had attained the rank of senior master sergeant. A recipient of several decorations and commendations, Michael was selected as First Sergeant of the Year in 1992. Following his retirement from the Air Force, Michael worked an additional 15 years as district supervisor for EZ Mart Stores in Lubbock. He was an avid sports fan and participant. He played softball while in the Air Force, had coached little league baseball while his children were young, and was an avid golfer for many years. He enjoyed time spent with family and loved all the family gatherings. He also loved music and bowling. His love for animals was evident throughout his life. He considered Ginger, Poppy and Delano his fur babies!
Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Harry Braskett and Betty (Padgett) Braskett; and his first wife, Marilynn (Jones) Braskett.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy (Johnson) Braskett; his daughter and son-in-law, Beth and Jody Fortner; his son, Scott Braskett; a granddaughter, Abby Fortner; his siblings, Donna Welch, Cathy Braskett, Steve Braskett, and Mary Ann Potts and her husband Jeff; several nieces and nephews and numerous friends.
