Merion Luke Johnson, 83, of Midland, passed away on Monday, March 7, 2016. Memorial services will be held at 3:00 pm, Saturday, March 12, 2016 at Christ Church Anglican in Midland.He was born June 14, 1932 to Roy (Buck) and Mary Avis Johnson in Weatherford, Texas. He attended public schools in Weatherford, graduating from High School in 1949 at the age of 16. He served in the US Navy attending schools in Jacksonville, FL and electronics school in Memphis, Tennessee. He worked in Norfolk, VA, and Corpus Christi, TX, ending his naval career as an Aviation Electronics Technician 3rd Class. He married Virginia (Ginger) Tong in 1953 in Corpus Christi. He attended Texas A&M from 1953 until 1960, receiving his Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering in 1957, and the Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering in 1960. He was employed by Phillips Petroleum Co in Bartlesville, OK from 1960-1970, working in the Research and Development Dept. doing process control research. He was inventor/co-inventor on nine US Patents during that period and Co-author of 10 nationally published technical articles on petrochemical process control. In 1970, moved to El Paso Products Co in Odessa as a Control Engineer where he worked on such projects as installing computer control in the Olefin plan. In 1989, he transferred to Ref Chem Corp., of Odessa until retirement in 1997.He served in the Episcopal Church in Odessa until 1997 in many positions such as Senior Warden, Junior Warden, Diocesan Convention Delegate, Eucharistic Minister, and in several diocesan committees. He and Ginger moved to Midland in 1998 in order to join of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church and later, St. Nicholas Christ church Midland, a bible-believing Anglican Church, in 2005. Merion is proceeded in death by his wife, Ginger, and oldest son Dennis. He is survived by one son, David Johnson, and one daughter, Bethany Caldwell, both of Odessa. He has five grandchildren, Luke Johnson, Rachel Johnson, Joshua Caldwell, Katy Caldwell, Jacob Caldwell all of Odessa. There are also 5 great- grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Christ Church Midland or a charity of your choice. For flowers that are being sent, please have them delivered to Christ Church. ,
