Melvin “Mel” Dean Pearson was born November 7, 1946 to John Melvin Pearson and Frieda Marie Maulik in Linz, Austria. He passed from this life into glory on April 29, 2021 after an eighteen month battle with cancer. He was proceeded in death by his parents and his father and mother in law, Bill and Margaret Basse. Mel was raised in Midland where he met the love of his life, Pamela Kay Basse. They enjoyed 51 years of marriage. They loved to go to Inn of the Mountain Gods and enjoy the beautiful mountain air. From that love they have two wonderful children,
Michael and Marc Pearson. Mel was a proud veteran. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1966 where he served in Vietnam. He was a hard worker. He worked long hours at Curry/Central Freight Lines for thirty-three years. After work he would coach his sons in baseball and do various carpenter projects for people in the community. Upon retirement he went to work for Envirocon Technology. He loved to work with his hands making toy boxes, clocks, rocking horses, solo cup holders, pens, coolers, Murphy beds and so much more.
He is survived by his wife Pam Pearson of Midland, Texas, son Michael and wife June and their children Chandler Pearson of Lubbock, Texas, Grant McMillan, Carson McMillan, Hunter McMillan, and Chloe Pearson of Frisco, Texas. Son Marc and wife Dana and their children Alex, Anna and Megan of Liberty Hill, Texas. Sister Mary and her husband Troy Willis of Cross Plains, Texas. Brother John and wife Patty of Denison, Texas. Brother in law Jim and wife Karyn Basse of Midland, Texas. Brother in law John and wife Joyce Basse of Flower Mound, Texas. Sister in law Amanda and husband Jimmy Davis of Midland, Texas. Numerous nieces and nephews and extended family.
A celebration of life will be on Tuesday, May 4, 2021 at 2 p.m. at Nalley Pickle and Welch Funeral Home. Followed by a private burial in Andrews Cemetery.
Memorials may be made in his memory to Hospice of Midland or St. Jude’s. Many thanks to Dr. Shelton Viney, Dr. Phillip Chae and all the staff of Texas Oncology for their love and support. Also to the staff at MMH oncology floor.
