Melba “Jean” Sledge, 92, of Midland, formerly of Big Spring, passed away Wednesday, September 2, 2026. Funeral services will be at 11:00 am, Saturday, September 5, 2026 at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel with Daniel Jung officiating. The family will receive friends beginning at 9:00 am until service time prior to the service. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park.
Jean was born December 5, 1933 to parents William Hugh Parker and Dolly Mae Mabry Parker in San Saba, Texas. She married William Sledge May 17, 1952 in Big Spring, Texas. She worked at the Big Spring State Hospital for 19 years and was a volunteer at Scenic Mountain Medical Center for many years. Jean enjoyed ceramics, knitting and watching Gunsmoke. She had been a member of College Baptist Church while living in Big Spring.
She is survived by her children William “Bill” Sledge III (Vickie) and Terri Johnston (Terry) and daughter-in-law Sarah Sledge; 7 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sisters Betty Parisher, Sheila Bererra, Carrie Mae Parker and Annette McDonald along with many numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband William, son Stephen Sledge, grandson Bryan Sledge, brother Randall Parker and sisters Patsy Stuteville and Laura Nell Parker.
Pallbearers will be Rowdy Fulfer, Cory Fulfer, Jeffrey Johnston, Ryan Sledge, Kyle Sledge and Ethan Johnston.
