Maxine Skaggs, 86 of Midland, Texas, died at her home with loved ones at her bedside on Saturday, August 3, 2024 after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease.
Maxine was born on August 26, 1937, in DeLeon, TX to Alton and Ina Mae Quinn. “Mac” was the youngest child and had a brother, James and a sister, Margaret.
Mac attended school in DeLeon and knew her future husband, Bruce Skaggs from childhood. She was raised on the WH Smith Fruit Farm in DeLeon. When she was 16 years old, she and Bruce were married on December 1, 1953, at the home of Bruce’s Grandfather, Willie Skaggs, who was a circuit riding preacher in and around Comanche County. Bruce and Mac moved to Midland, TX in 1954 and other places in Texas and Louisiana while Bruce was in the Army. They returned to Midland permanently in 1955. Mac worked in retail stores and the Midland Lee Youth Center. She loved to go to Estate and garage sales. She had a gift for “getting a great deal” on the many treasures she would find.
Maxine was preceded in death by her parents, Alton and Ina Mae Quinn, her brother, James Quinn and her loving husband, Bruce Skaggs, to whom she was married to for 65 years.
Maxine is survived by her sister, Margaret Lightfoot of Odessa, TX; daughter Teresa (Dennis) Holiedy of Midland, TX; son Tim (Jamie) Skaggs of College Station, TX; and her daughter Tammy (Billy) Brookshire of San Angelo, TX. She had 9 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, and 7 great-great grandchildren. Her family were her pride and joy and loved every time that she was with them.
The family would like to thank Hospice of Midland and especially Teresa and Dennis who were Mac’s primary caregivers for 5 ½ years during her lengthy battle with Parkinson’s Disease.
