Born to Max Odell Roberts and Maybell Bly Roberts on September 30, 1942. She met her Savior face to face on July 17, 2023, surrounded by her beloved children. Maxine lived most of her life in Big Spring and began her nursing career at the young age of 16 and continued well into her 70’s. She started her career at Hall Bennett Hospital, and continued to work in various nursing homes, the state hospital, hospice, home health, clinics and emergency departments.
If you knew Maxine, you know she was straight forward and didn’t mind telling you how she felt about something! But you also knew she loved you. Maxine was a hard worker and dedicated mom. She worked hard for over 10 years to become an RN while raising her kids as a single mom, in addition to working full time. She was most proud of being a grandma and G-Ma to her great grandkids. She rarely missed a band concert, basketball game, softball game, dance recital or tennis match. She called all of her grandkids and great grandkids, “darlin” and her eyes twinkled when she saw each one. She also became the token grandma at each of these activities to her grandkid’s friends and she loved them equally.
She loved her church and her church family at Trinity Baptist Church, especially learning from Pastor Kirkland. After retirement, she was able to spend more time volunteering in VBS, teaching jewelry making classes during the mission’s conference and developed great friendships with her church family. Her most cherished activity was her Tuesday morning Card Group, she dearly loved these friends. She had a servant’s heart and delivered Mobile Meals for the last few years.
Maxine was well known for her cookies and peanut butter pie. When the kids were younger, they often teased her about her lumpy mashed potatoes and runny gravy, but the grandkids LOVED her perfectly smooth mashed potatoes. Did she perfect the art or did she just like the grandkids better??? We may never know! She also became a successful jewelry maker and sold her ware at local craft shows and fairs.
Maxine was preceded in death by her parents Max and Maybell Roberts, a brother Rod Roberts, her grandparents, aunts and uncles. She is survived and will be missed by her children, Deidra Fuller of Midland, Connie and Mike Eggleston of Big Spring, Clint and Jennifer Tanis of Big Spring, Lisette and Danny Patrick of Big Spring, grandkids Lacy and Derek Guynes, Cayley and Taylor Peterson, Cody Tanis, Allison and Chris Sheppard, Makala Tanis, Keira Peffer, Rydeck Tanis, Emma Peffer, Brittany Patrick, and 10 great grandchildren, Dawson, Landry, Leighton, Gentry, Brooks, Tate, Aubree, Max, Jude and Jason.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Interim Hospice, Dr. Manish Shroff and Robin Alvarado FNP, and her church family who offered her so much love and support.
Visitation will be Friday, July 21, 6p-8p at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home. Services will be held on Saturday, July 22, 2023, at 10am at Trinity Baptist Church officiated by Pastor Kirkland. The family will have a private graveside service prior to the funeral service.
