Max Leo Dickerson, 82, of Midland passed away on Monday, February 1, 2016. Memorial services will be held at First United Methodist Church at 10:30am on Thursday, February 4th, with Rev. Macky Pitts officiating.Max was born on December 15, 1933 in Davidson, Oklahoma to Leo and Modena Dickerson. After high school, he attended Eastern New Mexico University where he also played on the football team. On August 7, 1953, he married the love of his life, Louise Whitaker. After receiving his Master’s in Education, Max began working in the public school system. He worked in the education system for 47 years in positions as an educator, coach, and principal. His favorite position was coaching which he did for 23 years at Whitharral ISD, Lubbock Cooper ISD, Whiteface ISD, Iraan ISD, and Greenwood ISD. Lovingly referred to as Coach D by his players, he received the prestigious honor of “Coach of the Year” on numerous occasions and served on several committees with the Texas High School Coaches Association. His time at Greenwood Independent School District lasted for 17 years until his departure from the public education system. For the next 12 years, he worked as the Business Manager for Trinity School. Upon his retirement, Max began working at Wishbone Ranch just north of Stanton. He loved spending time outdoors, farming and ranching, so his time spent at Wishbone was especially pleasurable. His most enjoyable pastime was spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a member of First United Methodist Church.Left to cherish Max’s memory is his wife of 62 years, Louise Dickerson; son, Scott Dickerson and wife Karen; daughter, Stacy Turner and husband John; son, Larry Dickerson and wife Sandra; brother, Richard Dickerson; granddaughters, Courtnee McHugh and husband Jay; Lindsee Turner and husband Pat; granddaughters, Laurel Turner; Justine Turner; and Reese Turner; grandsons, Samuel Turner, Caden Dickerson, and Zach Dickerson; greatgrandchildren, Brody McHugh, Blayde McHugh, Cameron Turner, and Kate Turner; and his extended family.He is preceded in death by his mother, Modena McClure; father, Leo Dickerson; and step-father, Avril McClure.The family would like to express their sincere gratitude towards Max’s caregiver, Barbara Blaylock, and his Home Hospice nurses, Lori Case, Kelli Harrison, and Shari Evans.By clicking the Memorial tab below, donations may be made to Lone Star Sanctuary for Animals or First United Methodist Church. ,
