Max L. Thomas, 75, of Carbon, Texas, died on Wednesday, July 18, 2007, in a local hospital. Graveside funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, July 21, 2007 at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Carbon, Texas with Gordon Ray Mitchell, officiating.The family will receive friends from 6:30 PM – 7:30 PM Friday at the Nalley-Pickle and Welch Funeral Home.He was born on December 15, 1931, in Mitchell County, Texas and married Verna Clinton on November 13, 1954 in Carlsbad, New Mexico. Mr. Thomas served in the United States Army in Korea. He was a member and a 32nd degree Mason of the Coahoma Masonic Lodge #992, A.F. & A.M. and a Shriner. He retired from El Paso Hydrocarbons in 1986 and then ranched in Eastland County. He was a Baptist.Survivors include his wife, Verna Thomas of Carbon; one daughter, Ruth Thomas of Coahoma; one sister and brother-in-law, Gloria and Billy Sanders of Coahoma; one brother and sister-in-law, Ted and Sharon Thomas of Marlin, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Guy and Laura Thomas. Arrangements under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Big Spring.
