MAURINE M. CARTERJanuary 19, 1919 September 16, 2008Maurine M. Carter, age 89, passed from this world into the loving arms of her Lord on September 16, 2008. She joined her beloved husband, Dee P. Carter, who preceded her in death in 1985.Maurine was born on January 19, 1919 in White Flat, Texas to George A. and Lillie B. Montgomery. She was the oldest of three sisters. She graduated from high school in Big Spring, Texas in 1935, where she was a member of the Steer Cheer squad and served as the Editor of the Yearbook her Senior Year. In 1937, she met the love of her life, Dee Price Carter. They were joined in marriage on July 17 of that same year and shared their lives for 48 years before his untimely death in 1985. They were blessed with four children: Dee K. Carter, Lawrence R. (Larry) Carter, Kay Carter and Robert R. Carter.While Dee served his country in the US Army in WWII in Germany and again in Korea, Maurine and the children lived in Big Spring and Stanton, Texas. Following his tour of duty, they lived for a brief time in Denton, Texas and then purchased the Buick dealership in Monahans, Texas, where they lived from1954 until 1961. In that year they moved to Odessa, Texas where they owned and operated the Carter Paint and Roofing Company. Dee and Maurine moved to Midland in 1972, where Dee was the General Manager for the Buick Dealership. In 1975, they opened Carter's Quality Automobiles where they worked together until Dee's illness in 1977. For the next eight years, Maurine dedicated herself to his care. Following Dee's death in 1985, Maurine enjoyed reading and watching her Dallas Cowboys.Maurine Carter was a loving Mother and loyal friend to many. She was a member of the Fairmont Park Church of Christ, where she was baptized at age 82. She is survived by her four children: Dee K. Carter and his wife Susan of Midland, Larry Carter of Cleburne, Texas, Kay Carter of Midland and Robert R. Carter and his wife Judy of Alpharetta, Georgia. In addition, she is survived by two sisters: Darlene Reaves of Lubbock, Texas and Helen Snyder of Odessa. She is also survived by one Brother-in-law, Charles E. Carter of Gainesville, Texas.Maurine was a loving Grandmother to Randa Lang and her husband Jonathan of Lubbock, Texas, Devyn Carter of Atlanta, Georgia, Erin Carter of Midland, Mandee Carter of Midland, Brett Carter and his wife Holly of Weatherford, Texas, Serette Smith and her husband John of Atlanta, Georgia and Colin P. Carter of Atlanta. Maurine is also survived by five Great-Grandchildren and 3 Step Great-Grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.Funeral services for Maurine will be held at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home, 3800 N Big Spring in Midland, Texas at 1:00pm, Thursday, September 18, 2008. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park in Midland. Visitation with the family will be from 6:00pm to 8:00pm, Wednesday, September 17, 2008 at the funeral home.Scott Sheppard, minister of the Fairmont Park Church of Christ and Dee Carter will officiate the services. Special music will be presented by her Sons, Dee, Larry and Robert, along with singers from the Fairmont Park Church of Christ. Pallbearers will be members of Dee and Susan's FEAST group from Fairmont Park and selected family members. Honorary pallbearers are the Elders from the Fairmont Park Church of Christ.In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made in Maurine's name to the Special Olympics and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation or the charity of your choice.Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Midland.
