Matthew Thomas King

Matthew Thomas King, 67, of Lubbock (formally of Big Spring), passed away Wednesday, February 14, 2024. Memorial services will be held at 10 AM Saturday, March 2, 2024 at the Nalley-Pickle and Welch Rosewood Chapel. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park in Big Spring.

Matthew King was born June 24, 1956 in Morristown, New Jersey to Edward and Betty-Jane King. He loved reading, teaching, singing, acting and directing students and drama. He was in three seasons of the musical THE PROMISE in Glen Rose, Texas portraying “Judas” and “Satan”. He graduated from BSHS in 1974, a Bachelor’s degree from Arlington Baptist College and Arizona State and a Master’s degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.

Matthew is survived by his former spouse Elizabeth King of Big Spring, and one daughter Mikayla King of San Antonio.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Betty-Jane King and grandmother Elizabeth Newborn.

The family would like to express their gratitude towards Covenant Hospital and Hospice in Lubbock, Texas. The nurses on the 6th floor are deeply appreciated for their care for him and us. Thank you Trinity Baptist Church for your prayers and love. The care given from The Plaza at Lubbock is also deeply appreciated.
