On Saturday, October 19, 2024 at 2:37 AM, surrounded by his family, a choir of angels peacefully escorted our precious Matthew to heaven to be with God. The gates of heaven opened wide as he was welcomed in to join Jesus, Mary, Joseph and all the saints, leaving behind a legacy of his light.
Matthew Travis Stice was born in Houston, Texas, on May 29, 1990, to Brenda and Travis Stice. He was the beloved brother of Elizabeth Stice Parker and Luke Stice. Also, brother-in-law to Kyle Parker and uncle to Emma and Wesley Parker.
Matthew lived his life with courage and joy, despite the challenges he faced from birth. He had an infectious laugh, and his striking dark green eyes were windows into his beautiful soul. His joys were simple but intense, especially when engaged with all things Thomas the Train, or old school Disney VHS movies, and reading his special books. He also loved riding his big bicycle at Bynum School. Matthew authentically gave love and joy to everyone around him.
Our family has been profoundly blessed and forever changed by Matthew. While we mourn his passing, we also rejoice in knowing that Matthew is now in his heavenly home, free from the tribulations of his health issues. For the first time in 34 years, his broken earthly angel wings are now divinely perfect, and he rests in the loving arms of Jesus, his perfect caregiver.
We believe Matthew’s purpose in life was to be a vessel to receive expressions of kindness from those who loved and cared for him and to let his light shine on others. The list of individuals who were touched by his spirit is endless, but include the Bynum School administration and dedicated staff, especially Irma, Annabel, and Selina, and his devoted caregivers, Ms Dollie, Ms Geneva, Ms Belinda, and Mr. Godfrey. We also thank the doctors and nurses at Midland Memorial hospital, and the team at Hospice of Midland who helped Matthew and our family in his final days.
Left behind to treasure Matthew’s memories are his Granny Sue Johns, Granddad Dale Stice, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins, along with cherished family friends, teachers, and caregivers. Matthew is preceded in death by his Nannie Mary Ann Stice and his Papa Francis Johns.
Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May he experience peace and freedom in the presence of God. Amen.
The family will receive friends at 4:00 PM on November 22, 2024 at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Midland, Texas. A funeral mass celebrating Matthew’s life will follow on November 23, 2024, at 10:00 AM, also at St. Ann’s Catholic Church.
