Wow, Matthew Haden...Ha, well i remember always messing with this kid during swim practice and at school. we always had a class together ever since 7th grade. I remember in junior high we always competed for the highest grade in each class...it was most enjoyable and awfully silly! :) We were always sarcastic to each other and liked to argue over things just for fun, but that was just how our friendship worked. I'm gonna miss his sense of humor and his tolerance of my sarcasm. He was an amazing guy! I always enjoyed talking to him and being his friend, and I'm gonna miss not being in classes with him and of course seeing him around the pool. :( but my deepest sympathy goes out to his family. I hope yall stay strong and comforted! Yall are the most loving people I know and yall are always in my prayers along with Matt. God bless yall! Love, Kaitlyn

oh, matt. or "skuzzey" as everybody at greathouse called him. he was one of the coolest dudes. ever. i remember him most during freshman year. he was the first boy to ever ask me out. even though we went to homecoming together just as friends, he was really the first boy that made me realize that guys actually do like me. it made me feel super special ;) becca purcell and he, along with a few others had spanish class together 7th period i think, and everyday i would hear in the car ride home all the crazy stuff they talked about. he was an awesomely funny guy :) and all the huzzeys have been and will still be in my prayers :)

Although I am still in disbelief of Matt's passing, I am extremely grateful that I was able to spend these last two years watching him grow into a respectful, motivated, and determined young man. Matt was a positive role model to each and every one of the members of the Lee High School Swimming and Diving team. His presence lit up the room and he always had an incredible smile on his face. I could always count on Matt to persevere through any task that may have come his way. Throughout these last two years, Matt has proven to be a fighter in many aspects, whether that be in the pool or as he trained to become a US soldier. Although I was entirely saddened at the reality of Matt's desire to join the forces, I knew he was passionate about serving his country in order to protect our freedom. Moreover, I knew that Matt was beyond the perfect candidate for this feat. Although I cannot understand why his life was taken so soon, I have complete faith that God has bigger and better plans for him which are unfathomable to us. I feel blessed to have had many wonderful memories with Matt over these last two years. There will always be a special place for him in my heart. Matt's heart, spirit, and love will live forever within me and the Lee Rebel Swimming and Diving team. Brian and Becky, thank you for sharing the life of your son with all of us each day. Haley, Michael and Hannah, may your brother live his wonderful spirit through you every day. Always in my prayers, Coach Brady

Matt and I had a class every year together except for our senior year. Never did a day go by that he didn't put a smile on my face. He was always so fun to talk to and be around. I loved his outlook on life and how you never did see him without a smile on his face. We always teased eachother about our grade in Ms. Truitt's class and I don't quite know how I would have made it without him. Words cannot express how sorry I am for the loss of such an amazing young man. It was truly an honor and a blessing to know him. My Nana always told me, "God only takes the most special people in this world to make the kingdom of Heaven more beautiful."; and i have no doubt that was what Matt has done. My thoughts and prayers are with the family always. We miss you Matt. Love, Ashley

I am so very sad to hear about your passing, as well is the rest of my family. We have known the Huzzey family for many years now. I used to watch Matthew and his siblings when they were smaller. Matthew was always a warm hearted caring person towards his siblings. He had a big heart and was always willing to help me out when I needed something for the little ones. He will be greatly missed by all!!! God Bless & Rest In Peace Jessica Bradbery

Since our last names are so close to each other, i've had at least one class with Matt since the 7th grade. My fondest memory of him is when we were in freshman year spanish class together. We never did much in the class, so there was a group of 4 of us in the back who would always messed around and were really loud. We always got in trouble with our teacher but one time we got in so much trouble when we drew "sexy cow" on matt hand. The teacher didn't get why we were laughing so loud and just kept getting madder and madder. I was so shocked to learn about huzzy's passing i know everyone's going to miss that sweet hilarious kid. Rest in peace huzzy.
Paige Reynolds left a message on August 17, 2009:
Although I graduated with him, I did not know Matt personally. I did, however, see him almost every day in the parking lot going to school or going to lunch. I remember him in his minivan, and he always let me go in front of him when leaving for lunch. It was rare seeing him without a smile on his face. I know he is in a better place and I offer my most sincere condolences to his family and friends. God Bless, Paige Reynolds
Stephanie Wyman left a message on August 17, 2009:
I never will forget in the second grade when Matt did a "Donald Duck" impression for Mrs. Kirby and the rest of the class. It was really funny... and really good too. I remember how he made us all laugh. Matt was a great person to be around. He was an outstanding student and I'm sure an outstanding solider as well. Although Matt and I kind of drifted apart our freshman year, we still saw each other in the halls and smiled. I will miss him dearly and my heart and prayers are with the entire Huzzey family.

There are many things that Matt will always be in my heart for, his kindness, his leadership and his determination. I have many fond memories of Matt, but my favorite is when he had to shave for district, he shaved everything but his beard, which just cracked us up. Love you all, love Jackie and Erica Olson

Dear Huzzey Family, I was deeply saddened to learn of Matt's passing. Although I did not know Matt well, I knew of him from other classmates. He was well loved at Lee High School, best known for his beaming smile and sense of humor that made everyone feel at ease around him. Another well-known trait was Matt's perseverance and dedication in everything, from the swim team to his plans in the armed forces. You raised a young man to be proud of. I want you to know that at this difficult time my family and I are praying for you. Lisa Henderson

Dear Huzzey Family, Things don't always turn out the way we expect them to in this life. Matt's passing was definitely not part of your plan. One greater than us all has a far better plan. Our hearts and prayers go out to you as you try to understand God's purposes and as you piece your lives back together without Matt. We loved Matt, we have fond memories of him coming to our home each month with his dad to check on us and give us a spiritual message. What a special young man. He lived up to the meaning of his name, for he truly was a "Gift from God".

Brian, Rebecca, Haley, Hannah, & Michael, We have only come to know your family in the last year, and it has been a wonderful year. When I met Matthew for the first time after his graduation, I felt trully inspired and hopeful for the future of this country becuase of Matthew's projection of character, pride, and youthfulness excitement about the challenge he chose before him. God apparently saw similar qualities and called him to serve at his side. I raise a new flag over our house in honor of Matthew. Thank you for allowing us to be a part of your lives, and please know that all of you are in our prayers.

Brian, words cannot adequately provide comfort during these times, rather that comfort can only be found in a greater God who, like you, lost his only Son. I am praying for strength and comfort for your entire family and all the lives he touched!! We all have a very special angel now!!
