Maryann Austin Allison of Midland passed peacefully from this world into the next at the age of 85 on August 8, 2018. A private family service will be held to celebrate her beautiful life.Maryann, or M.A. as she was known to friends and family, was born on October 2, 1932 in Ardmore, Oklahoma to Irene and Manie Austin. She attended Oklahoma State University before marrying Lt. Joe D. Smith, USAF. They were stationed in Margate, England when her husband perished in a plane crash while serving his country. She then returned to Ardmore and began working for Samedan Oil Company.Several years later she married the late Jimmy Allison of Midland and they started their family while he was working at the Reporter Telegram. During this time M.A. developed a passion for tennis and bridge and was very active in the community via Junior League and St. Nicholas Episcopal Church. She is fondly recalled as fun loving with a zest for life and a never-failing sense of humor which she maintained to the end. She loved animals and was always willing to provide a welcome home to all God’s creatures. She enthusiastically celebrated holidays with festive décor and an open door welcoming any and all to her home for a homecooked meal. Many accepted her invitation to stop by and enjoy her wonderful cooking and always interesting and eclectic circle of friends.Maryann was a devoted mother and grandmother to her 2 children and 3 granddaughters attending countless recitals, games and events to honor their achievements and cheer them on. She was an endless champion encouraging them to experience life and find their passion. She loved to travel with her family to destinations throughout the world celebrating the beauty, food and art of other countries and cultures. She had a passion for adventure and enjoyed painting and collecting Native American art in honor of her Cherokee and Choctaw ancestry. She is survived by her daughter Alyson Allison and granddaughter Addy Allison; and her son Jay, his wife Missy and granddaughters Ashlyn and Madelyn. In addition, she is remembered by many friends who enriched her life and whom she dearly loved. The family expresses endless gratitude to the Parish of St. Nicholas, Brookdale Senior Living, Ashton Medical Lodge and Star Hospice. Maryann was fast friends with them all as they graciously provided her friendship and care, ensuring her final months were filled with rest and peace. She truly appreciated the comfort and support they provided and their time together reminiscing and sharing stories of her full and often adventurous life.In lieu of flowers, any donations may be made to Lone Star Sanctuary for Animals in celebration of her never-ending love and care for all living things.Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle and Welch Funeral Home.
