Mary Martel, 57, of El Paso, went to be with our Lord on Thursday, July 24, 2008 at Sierra Medical Center in El Paso. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, July 29, 2008 at First Baptist Church Stanton with Rev. Mike Harris officiating. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park in Big Spring. The family will receive friends Monday July 28, 2008 from 7 PM to 8 PM at the Gilbreath Funeral Home in Stanton. Mary was born on August 1, 1950 in Midland, Texas. She grew up in the Courtney Community near Stanton and graduated from Stanton High School in 1969. She married Richard (Marty) Martel on October 3, 1970 in Stanton and they resided in Big Spring until 1977. They moved to Abilene where she taught in the preschool at Pioneer Drive Baptist Church until 1987. In 1990 they returned to Stanton and she worked for the Martin County Tax Office. In 1996 she and Richard moved to El Paso where she was employed by the El Paso County Tax Office until the time of her passing. She was a member of First Baptist Church Stanton. Mary leaves behind many loved ones including husband Richard of El Paso; two sons Lance of Stanton, Eric and wife Brooke of Prosper; parents Troy and Alyene Bradshaw of Stanton; two brothers Wayne Bradshaw of Midland, Darrell Bradshaw and wife Nancy of Stanton; two sisters Martha Byrd (her twin) and husband Sam of McKinney, Cheryl Jones and husband Jerry of Graham; one granddaughter Ensley Martel of Prosper; father-in-law William Martel of North Waterboro, Maine; sister-in-law Loretta Cole and husband David of North Waterboro, Maine; and a large extended family including aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews to keep her memory alive. The family suggests memorials be made to the cancer research foundation of your choice. Arrangements under the direction of Gilbreath Funeral Home of Stanton. I am not trying to get top of Martha, Mary's precious twin sister but I just realized I never signed her guestbook and as we all grew up together in Stanton & at Courtney gradeschool in the Country. What a wonderful life we all had together and all our moms were like our own Mom's to each of us. We who are all truly born-again in Christ Jesus will have a wonderful time together in Heaven Praising God and seeing each other again! What a day, What a day that will be. Mary is truly missed, what a personality in Love!!

Mary, You have always been my dearest friend. It is so hard to believe that you are gone. I know that you are in Heaven, and that you are no longer in pain. I love you and miss you each and every day. I will see you again one day, and we will once again be able to talk and have a good time. Take care of Taylor and Kaden for me, and tell them how much they are loved by those of us still left on earth. My love to you forever. Martha

Dear ms. mary I will miss you and you will always be in my thoughts. Your friendship to was so touching in many ways by you giving advise or telling me your stories. My deepest sympathy to all of you. As a classmate of Mary's, I was so shocked and sorry to hear about Mary's illness and passing to be with our Lord. As a twin myself, we had fun in school. I remember Mary at our last class reunion, and I looked at the last picture made then in which she was in. My prayers are with all of you. I pray that God will bless you with His loving care and put His comforting arms around you at this time of sorrow.

Marty: I was shocked and felt so sorry when I heard about your loss. May God bless you and give you the comfort that you need during this difficult time. We were so sad to hear of Mary's passing. We know that there is a missing link in your family chain, but remember someday it will again be complete. We have so many childhood memories and I assure you they are all funny----she was always so much fun. We haven't seen her in a while , but we can't imagine that she had changed. I have fond memories of Mrs. Martel. She was my son's pre-school teacher at Pioneer Drive Day Care in 1984-85. He has always said that Mrs. Martel was one of his favorite teachers. He looked forward to going to "school" each day. She had a sweet, loving spirit with the children and enjoyed being with them and seeing their personalities develop. She was positive & encouraging. Thanks to her, my son had a good foundation for the beginning of his school career. My deepest sympathy and prayers go to her family. She was a special person.

Ms. Mary was always such a sweet person to me and it saddens me greatly that she is no longer with us. I find comfort in knowing that she is with the Lord and that she will live on in my heart. I would like to extend my deepest condolences to her family. May our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ comfort you and give you peace.

Marty, I am so sorry for your loss, I know that I only met your wife a couple of times, but she seemed like a super lady. My thoughts are with you and your family at this time. If there is anything that I can do just let me know. Richard Lujan

Ms. Mary will be missed greatly. I really have enjoyed working with her, she always made me laugh when she came to tell me the song and dance stories that customers gave for not having all the information they needed. I honestly had great respect for Mary and feel that I have lost a dear friend. May peace be with her family and friends knowing that Mary is resting in the Lords arms.

I was so sorry to read Mary's obituary in the Abilene Reporter News yesterday. I worked with Mary at Pioneer Drive Child Care in 1978-1981. I enjoyed knowing her and am so sorry for your loss.

Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you as you have suffered a tremendous loss of a very special person. May God bring an extra measure of comfort and care to your family at this time. Many precious memories of days at Courtney School and Stanton High School flood my mind currently as I remember many of the times Mary and I shared as best friends over the years. Our days of playing basketball, FHA trips and events, birthday parties, sleepovers and many more memories are cherished. I suppose the most vivid one occurred the night Mary and Marty were married when Martha's veil caught on fire and everyone was distracted while we tried to "put out the fire." The time we all rode the go cart at the Bradshaw's was a thriller. We ate lots of tuna sandwiches and red beans and cornbread in the Courtney cafeteria on Fridays while enjoying conversations and taking a break from classes. The most surprised visit was seeing Mary and Marty in Albuquerque sitting right behind us at a NCAA Regional basketball tournament in Albuquerque about 5 years ago for a Texas Tech Lady Raider game. I am so thankful she was able to see and hold her granddaughter for a few days. Last year's Christmas card proudly announced the June due date for "the best Christmas gift she could have." Many great days of laughter, tears, excitement, and joy with my friend, Mary will forever remain special treasures in my heart.

Ms. Mary, Just wanted to thank you for making me feel welcome when I was transferred to the Zaragosa Tax Office; and encouraging me to stay in school. I enjoyed all of our conversations, even when you scolded me for getting home late and giving my mom such a hard time. LOL! I miss you. You are in my thoughts. Ms. Patsy

God gave me Mary when I was just a child starting first grade at Courtney and a long time friend, whom I shall miss so much. She comforted me and checked on me when I was going through my bout with cancer and she was my prayer partner. She never quite forgave me for introducing her to Marty. ha ha I love her and Marty and always will. It is comforting to know that I know where she is and I will see her again in Heaven. Goodbye precious friend of mine.
