Mary Louise Deats, age 96, entered eternal rest on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, in Lubbock, Texas. She will lie in state on Thursday, August 13, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home- Big Spring. Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, August 14, 2026, at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, 1001 Goliad St. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park in Big Spring, TX.
She was born on March 16, 1930, in Big Spring, TX to John Willis and Peggy (Birkhead) Davis. Mary earned a bachelor’s degree from Southern Methodist University and a master’s degree in business administration from Texas Tech University. She taught at Howard College for over 20 years. Mary was an active member of the Texas Office Education Association where she received an Advisor Recognition Award and Recognition of Service Award. She was also a member of several different women’s clubs in Big Spring. Mary enjoyed playing bridge, needlepoint, counted cross stitch, and cooking.
Mary is survived by her children, Annabeth Louise Miller and John Wesley Deats; grandchildren, Annaclarice, Caroline, and Abigail; great-grandchildren, Adeline, Benjamin, Spencer, and Holly; nieces and nephews, Mark, Stephen, Elizabeth, and Catherine; numerous other relatives, and many friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Wesley Deats; 2nd husband, Robert Dyer; and her parents.
Pallbearers will be Drew Miller, Adam Ronnebaum, Trevor Stevens, Glenn Fillingim, Donald Breeden, Russell Shaffer, Steven Hopp, and Landon Wegner.
