Mary Lou Scherer, 89, of Midland, passed away on Monday, June 4, 2018 at her home surrounded by her family. Private family services will be held at Nalley‐Pickle & Welch Funeral Home.Lou was born on January 3, 1929 to Marjorie and John Williams in Shreveport, LA. She attended C. E. Byrd High School, The Hockaday School of Dallas and was a graduate of LSU. She came to Midland and went to work for Sun Oil Company where she met John Scherer, a geologist for Southland Royalty Co. He swept her off her feet and changed her career to housewife and mother. Their honeymoon in Santa Fe, NM started a long love affair with the Rocky Mountain ranges of NM and Colorado. Lou loved the water and they spent many summer vacations on Vallecito Reservoir, Lake Travis and Roaring River State Park. Once their children were grown, they loved to travel abroad. Cruise ships became one of their favorite ways to travel and make friends. They were active in local dance and bridge clubs. Many nights were spent playing cards and watching slideshows with family and friends.Lou was very active at Trinity Presbyterian Church and volunteered many hours at Casa De Amigos and Midland Memorial Hospital. She was a true southern lady who never had a harsh word for anyone. She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother.She is preceded in death by her husband, John Scherer, her parents, John B. and Marjorie Williams, and sister, Carolyn Beaird, all from Shreveport, La.She is survived by her sons, John Scherer, Jr. of Houston and Peter Scherer and wife, Cindy of Midland; grandchildren, Brian Scherer, Jennifer Wilbanks, Kimberly Word, Lauren Moreno, Scott Scherer and Tracey Scherer; great grandchildren, Austin, Carter, William, Clayton, Elise, Major, Reid, Ryan and Sophia.In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be donated to Hospice Midland, 911 W.
