Mary Lou Holbrook6/18/1929 thru 02/28/2012Mary Lou Holbrook passed away on Tuesday, February 28, 2012 in Midland Texas. She was the daughter of Lillian Cheney and Robert Cocke from Corsicana, Texas.Mary Lou was the life of the party. She was many things to many people including artist, musician (ok, it was a boom-bass), mother, devoted wife, friend, caregiver, aunt and an enthusiastic Longhorn. When she entered a room, she brightened it with her wit, fun, charisma and loving ways. Her great grandchildren are constantly asking to hear another "Mary Lou story" however; most of these stories are too colorful for children that young!Mary Lou was a force of nature to the very end, living life her way.Mary Lou was known for her deep love of West Texas, and her large group of friends there. Mary Lou was predeceased by her parents, her sister Byron Waddell, her loving husband Finley Holbrook, her daughter Britt Donnelly, her grandson Corbett Bishop and her treasured friends Renie Zonne and Betsy Dwyer. She is survived by her sons Richard Donnelly, Jr. and his wife, Susan Morris of Austin, and David Donnelly and Pat Strong of Houston, grandchildren Baker Donnelly and Evan Duncan both of Austin, great-grandchildren Ella and Luca Bishop and their mother Camilla Pelizzoli of Nairobi, Kenya, Florence Holbrook and her children Jason and Jessica, Rainey Holbrook and her son Timothy, sister-in-law Eleanor Parker and her husband Dick, Bobby and Mary Cocke of Austin, Robinson Cocke of Austin, Jim Chaney of Austin, Jack Chaney of Dallas, DeMaret Childress of Fort Worth, Rob Waddell of Houston, Jean Donnelly of Midland, Peggy McConnell of Fort Worth, innumerable Donnelly family members including Jan and Joey O'Neill, Robin and Jeannine Donnelly, Art and Linnie Donnelly, Mike and Patty McConnell and Connie McConnell Presley and her cousin Francis Breithaupt.Services will be held on Saturday, March 3, 2012, at noon at The Episcopal Church of the Holy Trinity, 1412 West Illinois, Midland, Texas 79701, with The Right Reverend Sam Hulsey and Reverend John Wedgewood-Greenhow, presiding. The alter flowers have been graciously provided by Julie Roberts, who Mary Lou adored and considered her "second daughter".In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in Mary Lou's honor to her favorite charity, the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust to assist the orphaned elephants in Kenya.
